Hi all

Can the Canon DPP software convert CR2 files into DNG?

From what I can see it will only convert to JPEG or TIFF, am I missing something or is this it?

If DPP doesn't convert to DNG what can I use instead?

Thanks all

You want to download the free DNG converter from Adobe if you have a need for it. You will need a converter that will be compatible with your camer (newer than) and then you will need to convert to a format that supports your software. Here's the Adobe DNG "main" site:

Know, though, that a DNG file can not be processed by DPP, only apps like Lightroom and Photoshop.

If you have DPP that will convert your CR2 to JPG or TIFF, why woudl you want to convert them to DNG? DNG is Adobe's attempt to try and standardise the raw format, but for most people it only acts as an intermediary when their version of Photoshop doesn't support the raw files from their camera. Given that Photoshop can process both the JPG and TIFF files that your DPP can produce, I can't see the advantage of introducing a step that converts the files to DNG.

When that happens I will expect to see lions laying down with lambs.
