Great series, the second one being my favourite.

what was your set up? iso and shutter speed ? flash?

some came out really nice. I love the color on the 3rd one, I just hoped everything would've been in focus.

Did you use a flash for these?

I'm going to experiment a bit tonight but I have no flash to to use. Good job though.

I used my 100mm macro. Used a glass dish lid upside down as my reservoir. Flash was on full, to the side of the drops with a reflector on the other side. I had a colorful board for some of the shots behind the dish about 30cm, hence the color in the drops.
ISO 125, f22, 1/250

I am currently working on using 1/32 power on flash to increase sharpness. WiIl post the best soon

Really love the colors!

I did this recently too and had great luck shooting at f8-f11 and bouncing the flash off a background piece instead of trying to light it from the side (kinda wish I did now though after seeing #2!). Definitely play around with a lower power on your flash and maybe open up the lens a bit.

Also how did you setup for focus? Did you have the drops landing at the same exact point each time and did you use a ruler/pen/.. and liveview get the focus really dialed in? That helped me out a lot too.

Focus is manual, using a piece of wire to set it. SInce I am using a burette tube (I am a teacher and have access to chemistry tools), I can get a consistent drop rate in the same spot.
Hesitant to increase aperture too much so as to not reduce DOF too much. Playing around with different background (incl flags) to create an image in the drop itself. See below. A professional photographer friend suggested I just photoshop them in, but I am bit of purist and using this as a challenge

hah, great idea with the flags.. I agree, stay pure, a lot more fun that way.

You don't need a terrible amount of DOF for these as the plane of the drops is pretty much the same, at a high fstop you may be losing sharpness due to diffraction:

I loved the colors in the very first one. being able to see the back ground image through the drops is an awesome idea! keep it up! Being able to create a beatiful image like you've done here without ps is much more rewarding. I need to get my hands on a burette tube. absolutely amazing.
