Cool! So I go over my buddies house to pick up the lights and I bring along with me the 24 L II and 7D. So he pulls out one of his CF cards and shoots around the house with it. He almost passed out looking at f/1.4!!:lol:

!!! That lens is freaking awesome on the 7D! I remember the first time I went 2.8  that's when photography really started to make sense to me. :) now I'm obsessed with speed

Hehe! I picked up the ABs today. I totally forgot what we have as far as lighting goes. So we have two 800s and one 400. Is that any good?

sure, i used to have 800's and 400's, the thing with AB's is when you get below 1/4 power

the have a magenta colour cast, and balancing this colour cast with multiple strobes can be problematic

that was the main reason i sold mine, just try to use them at 1/2 power if you can

the more power you use eg: AB 400 full the shorter your flash duration will be = better

i found the 800's pretty strong but also depends on the modifier, i mostly shot f8-11 with my bees

my new strobes i can easily shoot f4-5.6 with no WB issues and fast duration :)

Thanks for the tip. Tbh, I'm not really good at studio lighting. I'm really weak in this area when it comes to even trying. I guess, it's time to get cracking! I asked my buddy about the other brands and I brought up Elinchrom. He said that a lot of pros use Profoto. Are those any good?

get yourself a sekonic L358 meter, best tip ever, profoto is really good, but bang for buck Eli is the best

comparing the strobes would be like comparing you 21mm to your 24mm that close performance wise

reliability they are even, modifiers double eli prices, and if your going all out get Broncolor over profoto ;)

good, start off using one strobe for portraits with a reflector on the opposite side of model

meter your flash output at the forehead area and set your camera up accordingly in manual mode

i use ISO 50 alot that should kill some power for you and also try feathering your softbox away from your subject

that will get you started anyway, also you can use background strobes as you get used to metering :)
