This is supposed to be one of the top cycling photographers in the US and because of that, other people are beginning to shoot like this too.

You think you're horizon is off a bit? This one (external link) drives me crazy. Guess it's supposed to be artistic?

Thoughts?

definitely an 'on purpose' shot to fill the frame better would be my thought.

Why not shoot portrait then?

Is this shot appealing?

I like the wide angle close up shot, but the tilt would be annoying for every shot. Its almost like they're leaning over a fence to get the shot.

Not to me.

Level horizon sports shots for me. First thing I did was crane my neck to see the athlete's face properly. I wouldn't be doing that for long.

cheers!

I don't mind it...I think the wide angle/wild tilt captures the energy of the scene quite well, so as a "once every few events" type shot; I don't see the issue.

I'd certainly lose it's impact if it popped up more often.

I actually think the thing that spoils this image is the group of utterly bored looking blokes in the background!

On occasion, a tilt can indicate speed or just give that artsy look; but most of the time it is overused for the wrong reasons. It makes me crazy to view photos of a sporting event and see a series of runners/players/referees looking like they are playing on a mountain ; now, if you are covering mountain biking, then that's different.

What's interesting to me is that they are racing in the snow with those bikes

It works to add some drama to the turn and speed of the biker. It would definitely get annoying after a while though.

Personally, I do it all the time. I like it, our clients like it, and what I like the most... most of people don't dare to do it, so my photos look different... most of time :) I agree it's not by the rule, but as long as clients like it, I'm happy with it ;)

Hi. It looks like it was taken portrait and then rotated. Not my cup of tea but it's probably good for magazines.

First thing I did was tilt my head. Don't care for it.
But if it sells my opinion doesn't matter.:)

I think ZXDrew has it right. Not every shot, but one or two are OK.
