HIS IMAGES ARE THE GOLD STANDARD
so i guess I should realize that.

But I just dont understand what makes the images have the colors and sharpness and contrast that they do.

I will shoot film if I can get results like that.
Are there any good tutorials to get awesome colors like that?
Its ridiculous!
And the dynamic range!
UGH!

How do you think he does it?

If you look at the images of him in the Bio section, you'll notice he's not exactly running around with a T2i (or even a 1DsMkIII)

Medium Format film, Wide (Pano) Format cameras, judicious use of filters and capturing the image when conditions are optimal. There really isn't any black magic to it. Bust your behind to perfect your craft and shoot when conditions help rather than hinder. His Antelope Canyon shots are a perfect example of knowing exactly when to be somewhere because you only get those kinds of light shafts at a specific time of day for a specific part of each year. If you visit earlier or later in the year, the sun doesn't get high enough to penetrate the "crack" over your head (as I found out when I went in September of 2006.)

IIRC, his gallery images show so well because of the quality of the printing and the paper used (Fuji Crystal something...) Some claim they use polarized light in the galleries but people have reported seeing his work in private homes with no special lights and it still has the same "pop."

He's simply very, very good at what he does and he also has a helluva marketing machine as well. ;)

Never said he doesn't digitize his negs... ;)

Forget where I saw it but in an interview, he swore that he does not use Photoshop. It's all "old school" .. In the camera and in the darkroom (or at least in the printing process...)

Anyway, where do you think all the stuff on photoshop comes from? it was (mostly) all done in the darkroom before it made it into photoshop.

That's what I meant above, when I said PS on film ;)

Heh, I was trying to be sarcastic about using the application directly on the film (and it being another program)... hard to convey that over forum text :(
