Minolta MD lenses on a T2i?

I found an adapter on-line which allows old Minolta lenses (I have several) to be mounted to a Canon camera. I have a T2i and was wondering if this would be worth it. Obviously, I would lose the IS and AF capabilities, but I'm curious...

Has anyone tried something similar?

The old lenses will sell for half a bag of peanuts on the net, so if you have the adapter, why not use the Minolta lenses for a start. I sometimes still carry a 28mm F2.8, a 50mm F1.2 and a 135m F2.8 Minolta MD Rokkor around in situations where I need something very compact and/or discreet to move around. They fit my 500D well and can be stored in the pockets of a jacket (no camera bag needed).

Not much worry about getting something damaged or stolen when your gear is not all-too-flashy in some given situations. Not to mention that I would not be in a position to afford the equivalent lenses as Canon primes these days. As to modern lenses working at F1.2, there are not so many around either.

I believe that there are some expensive conversions available, but I thought that the other adapters used lenses. If the optics are cheap, the outcome may not be too good.
I have some very good old Minolta MD lenses, and wonder which adapter you are referring to.

I am interested if there are any good Minolta adapters out there,. I have a couple old lenses I wouldn't mind trying on my Canons...

i bought one of the ebay adapters with optics in it, sold it after a few shots. imho not worth the hassle, it degrades the IQ, acts as slight TC and pretty sure it is f/2 for 50mm at best, given the size of the lens in it. they are dirt cheap tho, so you could give it a shot. when you have access to a lathe the conversion of the md rokkor 50/1.4 is pretty easy, works as designed then but with ef(-s) mount :D

I sometimes use a Massa MD/EOS camera adapter ring.

Yes, it's made in China, did not cost me an arm and a leg, enables focus to infinity and is ok for incidental use (see my former post in this thread). It doesn't reach stellar IQ, but is better at any rate than leaving the Minoltas rot away in the attic, especially that old 500mm mirror lens.

Ok, thanks, everyone. I was just curious. I have all Minolta primes, 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, 100mm, 135mm, 200mm and a Vivitar 400mm with a Minolta mount and even a Celestron 1000mm mirror lens with a Minolta mount. All the focal lengths are basically covered with my Canon 18-55mm and 70-300mm zooms except of course that Vivitar and Celestron.

I've been wondering what to do with all this old film equipment. There's an SRT-201, two XD-11s with winders and an X-700 with the MD-1 motor drive. I don't even know if these cameras work anymore. This stuff has been sitting around for years as obviously, I'll never go back to film again. But maybe I can put that Vivitar and Celestron to use.

I only have one Minolta MC/MD lens, and its the MC Rokkor-PG 58mm f/1.2. I bought it with the intent to convert it, and convert it I did... its an amazing piece of glass and well worth the time and effort. But I don't think I'd want to use it with an adaptor, cuz f/1.2 was the point of the lens.

I did the same - bought a Rokkor 58/1.2 to convert it to EOS 5D.
I love that lens. The optical adapters degrade the image quality of such fast lenses much - did not want to test that. Conversion of this lens is pretty easy. Done that without special equipment. With a althe it would be easier. Or one could by parts from Jim Buchanan for that lens.

I further more converted a Rokkor 35/1.8, probably convert a Rokkor 100/4 Macro.

Any adpater that has glass in it is to be avoided. Aside form the original Canon FD to EF adapter that now sells for about $1K. There is a guy in Italy that will adapt your Canon DSLR to use Minolta MD lenses by modifying the mount on the body. Now it will only accept MD lenses, not anything else. Yes, the older 58/1.2 is worth converting to EF mount. I also did the 35/1.8.
