before i was using a C2Dual and thought it was slow cuz of that. now i'm using a quad-core CPU and i still feel LR3 is resource hungry!

it really lags down my computer and don't know what to do.

is there another program i can use, or should i just go back to using BR + PS4 combo?

Well, two things that LR "needs" is a good amount of RAM and a good amount of free hard drive space (which makes having an internal "data" drive a good thing). Also, the Cache Lightroom shares with Camera Raw in CSx is by default quite small. In the Lightroom Edit/Preferences there are preferences for how LR handles previews that you want to review; in Bridge you can resize the Camera Raw cache using Edit/Camera Raw preferences as well. Typically you want to set it to anywhere from 5 - 20 GB.

Probably due to lack of RAM. How much do you have?

Good news is that's *usually* an easy fix.

I've got a quad-core in my laptop along with 4GB ram and LR3 doesn't feel slow at all to me.

Runs very well on my machine. AMD 6-core 2.8ghz w/ 8gigs of RAM. I'm always a proponent of increasting RAM.

LR3 runs just fine on my MacBook (13" white) with 4GB of RAM. Of course, 64-bit version makes memory issues go away...

I have a year 2008 dual processor quad core Mac Tower and it was dog slow with LR3 until I upgraded my RAM. I am now running 10gb of RAM and LR has been reborn.

sorry for the late reply.. been stuck in canada airport for quite some times.

i have a quad-core with 4GB of memory (which is maxed out) and the rest are all SATA drives and what not.

Looks like if i were to keep using LR, i'll need to get a new system.. hehe..

I'm assuming Windows (I know nothing about Mac OS's) But you will benefit from more RAM (total of 6 or 8 Gb), but to do this you will need a 64bit OS to access more than around 3.5 Gb.

I have a Core 2 Duo E6750 (2.67GHz) box that only has DDR2 800 Memory. I had 32 bit Windows 7 with 2Gb of RAM and it struggled with LR3/CS5.
I changed to 64bit Windows 7 and installed 6Gb RAM and it's a lot (lot) quicker now.
