Anyone else having issues printing B&W prints on the R1900?

Just can't seem to get a True Black and White print out of this printer. I know it is not known for it's B&W's but for glossy colors.

I printed some today and seem to have a color cast to me. Can't really post results as the image on monitor looks B&W.

Check the driver for B&W only prints -- you may have to select the printer doing the "color management" but of course B&W bypasses that...

Just about everyone. The R1900 is well known for poor B&W. The problem is that the colors added to the basic CMYK(glossy)K(matte) are red and orange instead of a light black/grey ink. So the trade-off is a wide gamut in orange-red (wider than Adobe RGB) for poor B&W. If I want to do mono-tone I go to sepia.

So are you saying in the printer set up dialog you are checking "grayscale"?? Do you see a difference by doing this??

Also are you saying you change to printer doing color management?? And if so what do you mean when you say "B&W bypasses that"?

I'm just saying that with some printers you need to switch to the grayscale option or else you get a color cast. I don't have an R1900 so can't ssay for sure what will work best there but with the printer I use you need to do that to get a "true" B&W. Try a few things to see what works best.

Here are two scanned images of results from R1900.

They are not very good copies (poor scan quality) but the one o little girl on ground actually looks good B&W, and the other has color cast.

Well now I see when I preview the images scanned the one of girl standing does not have the color cast that the print shows.

NOW I AM REALLY CONFUSED

On my screen the head and shoulders shot is neutral gray and the girl sitting has a cyan cast.

I did get some instructions from Epson that really made a Huge difference. Not perfect but very very close to calibrated monitor.

If anyone interested let me know and I can post.

I'd be interested in those instructions from Epson. Always wanting to learn more regarding my R1900.

Sorry, I forgot to post the instructions from Epson.
My issue was I was get a strong color cast when converted to B&W. I was letting PS do color management and printing same as I would a color image. Here is what Epson said and it seems to work for me.

1. Open the image in Photoshop
2. Click File and select Print
3. Make all necessay changes in Photoshop Print Window. For Color Handling, slect Printer Manages Colors and Rendering Intent select Perceptural.
4. Click Print Settings in the Photoshop Print Window.
5. Select the Media Type and Size.
6. Click Advanced tab, since you are letting the printer handle the colors, in the Photoshop Print Window, for Color Management on the right select Photo Enhance and set Scence Correction to Gray.
7. Click OK and test the printer.

Worked for me, let me know if it help you as well.

Did you desaturate the image to achieve B&W? I have zero issues printing B&W without a color cast on my R1900 without changing any settings from my normal every day printing.

I had issues with a blue tint on my first B&W but that was before I owned a Spyder3Elite. Is your monitor calibrated?

Yes my monitor is calibrated and I convert to B&W in CS5 using the adjustment layer for B&W.

The monitor and print out are now very very close without color cast.

How could the monitor profile cause a blue tint when printing? Even you see a blue cast on the screen, if the B&W is neutral (R=G=B), the print should be neutral.
