Dear Forum members
I have lenses and my ‘dilemma’ as shown in signature below.

Recently went on a family holiday and when outdoors used Tokina12-24 as walk around lens on two days & canon 50mm as walk around lens on one day. Carried all three lenses outdoor and was lazy to switch lenses (Frequently changed lenses when indoors only).

I have counted number of photographs taken in various focal lengths (FL) (I have grouped FLs to aid in decision making):
Tokina12-24
12mm: 29 nos
13-15mm: 26 nos
16-19mm: 43 nos
20-23mm : 36nos
24 mm : 31 nos
Canon 50mm : 33 nos
Sigma 18-200 : 3 nos (100-130mm)

Prior to above study, I was planning to sell above 3 lenses & buy instead Canon 17-55. Post above study – I am worried that I may miss 12-17 mm.

Are there forum members who made similar decision and what is there experience of reducing their focal range on wider side. Further is canon 17-55 at par or superior in IQ to Tokina & Canon 50mm.

Any comments / help / recommendations on the issue will be appreciated. (Assumptions – limited funds, photographing family & friends)

You're going to base your entire lens choice on 1 family vacation ? If family vacations are the only time you use your camera, then go ahead. I would say, based on what you posted, don't sell the 12-24. If anything, sell/replace the 18-200.

If I did that, based on last month's usage, I would be changing my lens lineup at least twice a year. There are some lenses I don't use for months, then use almost every day, and vice versa. I bought a 70-200MKII very recently and probably won't use it till June but when June comes I KNOW I will be using it for the summer concerts/events, over 40 last year.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

Thanks for your comment. The decision to change is more based on last three months experience and feelings. However I wanted to test the decision based on data from this holiday. Actually my requirements would be best met if I replace Sigma lens with Canon 24-105 and also keep Tokina & 50mm. However to conserve funds I am looking at buying 17-55 after desposing all.
