Every time I open Photoshop (CS5), the cursor/pointer shows the little icon which symbolizes moving (see picture below) and I can never get it to show the actual brush.

Here are a few pictures of my screen.

Only after I click my mouse can I see the actual brush. This can be seen here:

I've already tried uninstalling then reinstalling photoshop and reseting the preferences. If you have any suggestions or solutions, please let me know. By the way, I'm on a Mac. Thanks for reading.

Don't know about a Mac, but on a PC I can only replicate your problem by holding down the Ctrl key. Is it possible that the equivalent key on your Mac is stuck down?

When I press the Ctrl key, a different box appears where the arrows normally would. However, that still doesn't fix the problem. Thanks though.

That would be the Cmd key. But if that were stuck, clicking wouldn't brush for instance.

What hardware?

Maybe some kind of issue with video card or some driver? (I think there was an issue with Wacom drivers early on)

I have the most recent 13" Macbook Pro and my computer is running Mac OSX V. 10.6.5. Also, I wouldn't think it has to do with the video card because my video card works very well in other situations. Perhaps the problem is indeed related to the Wacom driver issue. I'll look into that and get back to you. Thanks.

The only other time I have seen something like this is when the cursor is outside a 'selected' area. Is it possible that you have a small area selected without realising?

This may (or may not) help.

With my Dell Windows OS I once inadvertently had the numbers lock locked on...I had to use the Fn (Function) key then press F11 to unlock it.

I don't know if it's the same with Mac OS so take it with a grain of salt.
