The only thing about this picture is that I don't see much contrast between the buffalo and the rest of the grass that surrounds him. I wonder if I would like it better in color. Do you have the color pic that you can upload? Yes, his horn is awesome and sure to have a story attached.

My first impression was an old photograph. If it is an old photograph it would certainly be more valuable particularly if you could nail down the location and date.

As far as the shot itself, it lacks some depth and it's a little confusing to see the trees really blurred while the mountain range seems to be much sharper. It may be blurred because of the lens distortion at the corners.

I am assuming that the OP took the picture. I like it just the way it is as it does have that old time look. Composisiton is fine.

I get the feeling that focal blur / bokeh was PP'd in.

You might be right. That thought did occur to me. Just guess the OP will have to respond.

it is a digital file from my 1dmk4. I edited it in ps. I like the image for a lot of reasons, most of all because my eye rests in the middle of the image. it starts on the buffalo and goes left but bounces back to the middle off the trees on the left. Thats me. It was taken Sept 19th on Buck Hill in the South unit of TRNP. (teddy roosevelt national park) I believe it was at 70mm from my 70-200. I'll see if I can find the original. Thanks again.

Canon "Snappy".... Thanks Mom and Dad!

I like the "old time" look to the photography but as a user previously pointed out there is very little color distinction between the grass and the buffalo. I'm really new to photography and just picking it up as a hobby for now so I don't know how to offer a potential compromise between the two.

The color photo is nice too because you have the brown buffalo, grasses, green trees, and grey mountains - a color pallet that really works well together.
