So I've really wanted to try candid photos because I believe the best smiles and the best expressions comes when a person's completely free and relaxed.

The only problem I have with this is, I don't know how much people will appreciate their photos being taken without their consent, especially children.

What is the best way to do candid photos and not disturbing people and what's the best way of handling a situation where people might confront you?

The best way of handling this situation is to have kids of your own and take pictures of them. If I saw you, a complete stranger, taking pictures of my kids, even from one photographer to another, I'd probably make a pretty big deal over it.

You can make a big deal out of it, but everyone has the right to take photographs, with or without consent, if there is no expectation of privacy (i.e. out in public).

I agree but I'm a youngin and don't have children of my own. Honestly, if I saw someone taking photos of my kids, I'd probably beat them up. I have a 2nd cousin who's young but I rarely see her.

I don't mind adults as much considering I can handle them with just a quick conversation but I know how hypersensitive parents can be about their children. That's my main concern.

If someone is taking pictures of my kid, I'll make a big deal out of it if I want. Having a total stranger taking pictures of my kids, not knowing their intent would really piss me off. So therefore I'd handle it expecting foul intentions. Im not saying physically, but confront them.

Depends on if you're physically imposing or not. I have no qualms about being rude in public taking pictures of people I'm never going to see again.

If you took pictures of my kids, and then we're rude about it, that little loose screw in my head my start to rattle.

What do you think newspaper photographers do just about everyday? Events, sports, etc. have children that the photographer has no idea who they are.

Just common sense...just because people do it does not make it OK or the right thing to do.
No responsible parent is going to be OK with strangers specifically taking pictures of their kids...I know I would immediately confront anyone that did....with no hesitation.
