I am starting to think maybe Samsung has the best mirrorless system camera now. They just released a new body that looks pretty decent, but along with that comes a new 85mm f1.4 with USM (they call it SSA). The 20mm and 60mm f2.8 primes have already been announced and a 16-80 f3.5-4.5 and 16mm f2.8 pancake are due mid 2011 according to Samsung's roadmap.

I think its pretty close against Sony, the Nex5 is no slouch at all and whoops the nx10 in high iso. 16-80 sounds good though...

if they only made that for canons(thought the 15-85 is nice, id give up the 15 for 16 and 85 for 80 if it could do 4.5 at 80! :) ), like Sonys Zeiss 16-80 3.5-4.5.

Seems like not many are interested, but Samsung has examples of 4 new lenses for NX at CES: http://www.dpreview.com/articles/CES2011/Samsung/ (external link)

60mm f2.8 IS macro
85mm f1.4 SSA (USM)
16mm f2.4 Pancake (Wish Canon made one of these!)
The requisite 18-200mm OIS

I bet the 85 would be a good lens...But who in there right mind would buy it for that system?? They need to change it up! Think Pentax Ltd's when i say change it up. A pancake 70mm 1.8 would be awsome on that camera. Not a HUGE 85 1.4.
All of them limited pancakes for this camera would be awsome. Lets say 31mm and a 70 as walk around.

I think it depends whether you are looking for a single system or a companion system. If you just want a smaller travel system to complement your SLR, then yes, this makes no sense. If you are trying to replace your normal SLR and still want a serious lens for occasional serious work, then a few pro-grade lenses like this makes sense.

If they would hurry up and get Samsung sensors up to speed, I'd be looking a lot more seriously at this system. The sensor in the current NX cameras is still a slight downgrade in performance from the first-generation sensor in the K20D I used to use (modifications they made for faster readout and video in the K-7 and NX cameras compromised the IQ and they still haven't fixed it yet), and while I liked the K20D a lot while I had it, the modern generation of sensors from Sony and Canon just leave it in the dust in too many ways. Even the latest 4/3 sensors have shown results on par with (GH1 and some would argue EPL1 and ilk) or superior to (GH2) those from the NX cameras, and until they do something about that, I guess my enthusiasm for what the system could be will continue to greatly outstrip my enthusiasm for what it presently is.

It's not like it should even be all that difficult. An analysis I came across revealed that the analog-digital converters used on the K20D's sensor were responsible for nearly all the readout noise present, and modifications to provide 4-channel readout have only increased noise coming from the readout circuitry. More modern components could potentially lower the noise floor significantly (yielding better DR) without even updating the photosensor design itself (though after several years now I'd say that's due as well).

I agree, Samsung does seem to have the worst performing APS-C bodies past ISO 800. Maybe they need to buy a sensor from Sony like everyone else until they can figure it out.

Pretty interesting stuff, but I'd be somewhat worried about the lifecycle on all of this... They come out with a bang - 4 lenses at the same time... all are great on paper, but if sales are rough, I wouldn't be surprised if the mount is phased out again in a few years, leaving people with an outdated body and a few potentially great - but useless lenses they can't buy a new body for. Or have a working system but can't buy new lenses for.
Seems like the market is becoming saturated with camera systems / mounts lately. I with I could take a peek in the future and see which ones remain ;)
