Practicing shooting portraits on my wife. I'm still learning so don't feel bad about pointing out any faults in my shooting, I want to know where I need to improve, thanks!

I think it's a good shot. Her eyes are very sharp. Some people may not like the tilt but it works for me. Overall, very good!

I think the pictures came out lovely! Not much to complain about. Great sharpness, color, and lighting! I would just say be careful cropping part of people's heads out when doing portraits. Thats just being nit-picky though.

Well done!

Looks like you've been practicing for a while. Looks good. I think the low head crop works in this photo. Sometimes I would agree with ConversMan's comment, but it's all up to your own "artistic interpretation".

Exactly. Completely agree. It's up to you in the end! :)

Yea, a bit tight on the top of her head for me, but the expression is perfect, the focus is right where it should be and her hair really accentuates the curve of her face.

Good work!

Wow, thanks for all the positive comments guys :) I wasn't sure about the crop... I was trying to get her eyes right on the 2/3 mark, but I'm sure that's not always required, right? I enhanced the eyes and softened the skin... her eyes aren't usually that colorful but I like it :)

overall, I like it. It's a tad hot on her left side but not terrible.

A decent photograph. I do not particularly like the tilt with the horizontal/verticle lines in the background. If the background was solid (no lines) the tilt would be fine. She has nice eyes and could be the focus of the photograph so I do not mind the close crop, but in that case the crop should be a bit tighter. The crop as you have it looks like sloppy cropping rather than an intentional, artistic perspective.

Best, Bruce

The rule of thirds can be broken. However, doing it well is difficult. It takes a strong subject focus, and by that I mean a subject who's appearance is strong enough to "hold" the viewers eye, to pull a dead center crop off. When done properly it's pretty freakin' sweet :D Just experiment - your eye will tell you if it looks good or not. ;)
