Those are nice images. But I especially like http://www.flickr.com/photos/kaptnkain/5291640509/ (external link) from your flickr page. You have a nice eye for composition.

Thanks! I have quite a few more photos that I like, but I haven't posted here because the subject is lacking.

They're all really pretty good, looks like you've got a good start with an eye for composition :)

In number one, I'd sort of like to see mountain tapering into the opposite corner rather than dropping out of the frame part way there, personally, but the colors are great there.

My favorite, by far, is the water pipes shot. It looks like a shot from amidst an army of robots :)

Thanks! The first shot was just a quick one I got on my way back from a missed sunset  The mountain drops off fairly quickly from there, and making it go across the screen would have made way too much black space on the left.

1,5,6 are pretty neat. I would personally boost the vibrance on 1 a little. 5 is a lovely black and white.

Here you go. Boosted colors, and changed the crop. I like it, but it's not honest to what was there when I took the photo.

Uploaded and resized with Imageshack. Seems the colors have been slightly muted.

Very nice! It looks like you have the most inportant part down---an instinctive eye for what looks good. Kaptnkain, I'm curious as to any post work you have done on these? #2 looks like you could really bring out more in the sky and some added saturation for the trees and make this photo pop off the screen. Do you shoot RAW and process or shoot JPG? Did you do any photoshop work?

Also, I really like the concept of #6. The natural outline the frost makes separates the subjects from each other.

Most of my PP consists of WB management, sharpening, and color balance. I try to keep photos as honest as possible. I shoot in RAW, and I use Lightroom 3.0 for mostly everything and Photoshop CS3 for more advanced editing if I need it. I will toy with the Fall Sunrise a bit more, and post my results shortly.

I think that looks way better. Not much in photography is honest though, we've all got our own views. Personally I don't really care what someone does to acheive their vision, but yeah. You've gotta decide what your threshold for editting is I guess.

Here we are. I can only make the sky so blue, there was a fog over the mountains and there really isn't that much blue to bring out.

Yes, but the frame cuts off the tip of the ear. Could have been better composed.

Thanks guys! I was expecting more negative feedback

Why? They all work - technically and aesthetically. You have a good eye.

Five is my favorite. One and two and four are my least favorite.

I really like #4. What lens was used? It is VERY sharp and crisp with great separation of subject and background (a very nicely blurred background at that!).

And #3 is great too. Nice rhythm.

Those colors arent natural in #1 are they?

And number #2 is pretty bland. Its not interesting like the others.

Great job!

#4 is my fav. Shooting people (and being able to convey emotion through it) is far more challenging-in my humble opinion-then shooting inanimate objects. All are very good, #2 is the only one I feel isn't up to par with the others... I think it is the power lines that are distracting me. Maybe remove them in PP? Great job

They are actually, if you can believe it. The sun had set and it's what I saw. Santa Cruz is on the other side of the mountain.

#4 was shot with a 50mm F/1.8. It's an absolutely awesome lens for $100.

Thanks. #2 was taken within a few days of receiving my camera. I didn't have much idea on composition then. I included it to broaden the subject matter of my post.

The only one i do not like is the first. For some reason the lack of anything in the dark area is distracting.

First step........ Take the lens cap off.
