Only 4 days into owning my first DSLR, and I already bought a new lens! Will be with me today or tommorow.

Tamron 70-300mm f4/5.6 DI LD Macro

Went to Jessops and had a play on a 500D. They didnt have a 1000d to try it on. Was told its a good lens for the money? £99.00 inc delivery.

Does this seem ok?

This Website is such a bad influence!! You should be ashamed!!!!!

Hi,
The lens got a solid review in Digital Camera magazine a couple of months ago in the group test - I had a play with one and it seems like a nice lens.

Excellent price as well, well done.

LOL!! bw!

Photography is about GEAR and not talent or practice. Practice won't make you a better photographer. Expensive equipment will. =D

A very good lens for the price, solidly built and pretty sharp (best at f/8), does 1:2 macro and the focussing speed isn't bad. I've just replaced mine with a 100-300mm that came today, of course it blows the Tamron away but it also cost 5 times as much (and is about 5 times heavier). So, now I'm going to sell the Tamron on for someone else to enjoy, £80 posted to anyone interested ;) .

The die is cast.

Mark down what gear you have today, then compare in 1 year.

Have fun

My thoughts exactly :D I think it took me a little under a year, and in the ensuing four months I've bought a total of five L-lenses, three of which I still have.

Whoever said photography is more addictive than crack was clearly making an understatement.

I also bought 3 when I bought my 30D . But, I really don't use any of those anymore.

Very true . Within a year I had replaced the three I started with . But since then I've been pretty stable , lens wise anyway

Don't get caught up in gear nonsense! Once you get some base lenses try to do all you can with those before you fall victim to upgrade fever.
