What would you guys do? I have the 85 1.8 and im thinking about trading it for a 50 1.4. Im shooting with a 5d classic. My other lenses are tamron 28-75 and 70-200 2.8 is. Im gonna start shooting weddings but have been shooting outdoor portraits.

Set your 28-75 to 50 and walk around with that FL for awhile. Does it work better for you? The 85mm is a better lens than the 50, but if it doesn't get much use due to the focal length - then it is pretty useless. Let the focal length be the driver.

The 85mm AF is quicker and more reliable in the low light than the AF on 50mm.

My tools: 1Ds ii, 135L, 85L, 85 f/1.8, 50 f/1.4, 24-70 f/2.8

Not in my experience. It is more quiet, but that is about it.

If you're going to start shooting weddings, I would guess that you might want both 50mm and 85mm. Anyway, for outdoor portraits I would think 85mm would be more useful than 50mm unless you are shooting group portraits.
