Taken with my canny sx20IS and just loved the cloud formations .........Dont foreget Its a bridge camera thats all.......

So would i

a view from my "office". taken on the way back to Germany from Afghanistan. the contrail is from a Swiss Air 777 on their way back to Switzerland.

Cool image! Swiss do not have any 777's though!

Qantas A380 overhead

Wasn't much going on at RAF Leeming today but saw these fancy looking Contrails forming, they were gone within a couple of minutes.

Contrails got stuck in the wing tip vorticies. Since a vortex can only terminate on a boundary or another vortex, tip vorticies roll themselves up into those donut shapes - the main wing vortex helps roll things up nicely. Not sure if you saw it when you took the picture, but the way the ring vortex wags in the wake of the aircraft is really spectacular.

This of course happens all the time, to every airplane; only rarely when smoke or other opaque item is ejected into the vortex can the human eye see this.

There's a Sea Fury that has tip smoke canisters, can find it on youtube, and the visualization of this aerodynamic effect is better than it was ever explained/described/dr​awn while I was in my Aerospace Engineering curriculum.

...or if you sip the cool-aid, it's a government experiment on making artificial clouds.

I see that same effect over Tehachapi quite a bit. It's the doughnut on a string contrail produced by the black project Aurora aircraft. Lol jk. Now that's drinking some koolaid.
