I was wondering what do people include in there different packages. Post them here.
It should be interesting to see the different packages.
Ex.
Package I
all 4x6
10 8x10
1 20 Page Photobook
DVD of all pictures in Web Quality
DVD of all pictures in Hi-Resolution if "X" happens.
etc

Ive tried this before with little luck. People tend to keep this information close to their heart, and after the amount of work I did to make mine I understand why. It is a complex process of adding cost and margin, and the amount of discount needed. Good luck, but I wouldnt be surprised to find few responses.

I'll share, but that's because I'm a la carte. They pay me to shoot and then they can buy whatever albums, etc. they like individually. I price them well and 90+% of my clients order an album of some kind, more than half order a very substantial one. And they can either purchase the disc of images or it comes free with other purchases.

I plan on using the a la carte method. Charge a shooting fee and then let the client choose what they want depending on budget.
Im working on a few packages just to give the client a baseline of what people typically order.

I have a feeling that is what is going to happen, but I figured I would try. It definitely is a lot of work.

I think ala carte is the way to go. I'm actually in the process of debating what I want to purchase from my wedding photographer at the moment and its nice to have options. I'd rather choose what I want than to get something pre-packaged.

Prices/margins are a big high IMO but that's coming from the client. =p

Don't get me wrong, guys; a "packages" approach has been around since the 50's and only because it's very successful at building both revenue and margin for photographers. I made a deliberate business decision to go a la carte because I felt was right for me, my biz model, and the clients that I tend to attract. It is not, however, an obvious choice to go one or the other; they both have advantages, they both have disadvantages.

You can get the information by looking at other wedding photographers websites and I think your more likely to get a good cross section of packages by asking people to post links to their packages rather than information .

Mine at the link below.

Wedding Photography Packages for Boundless Photos (external link)

I do custom packages too (a la carte if you like) but in my experience couples generally like to have a starting point to plan their photography coverage from, most of mine go for one of our standard packages with some people choosing the odd tweak to them here and there.

John, just noticed looking at you packages you list "full day of coverage from prep to FIRST dance" should that be last dance?

First dance is a more common time to stop. The last dance is usually around midnight, and who wants some guy with a camera around all night while people are drinking and dancing making people self conscious and uncomfortable?

I think that's a cultural thing; in the US, the general expectation is that you stay at least through the cake cutting, bouquet toss, etc. Not so much in Europe and elsewhere.

Got it. I think I like the UK style better. Don't know how many brides in the states would agree though.

Come to think of it, I went to a family wedding in Ireland a few years ago, didn't get over till around 4am. Wouldn't want to the the photog who said they would stay till the last dance at that wedding.

We have a time limit on our "full day" package of 8 hrs. The bride decides whe she wants that time to start & end. We've found that the majority of brides want exit shots as they are leaving the reception, so they either start the 8 hr countdown later, skipping some of the prep stuff, or they add an hour or two to the package at our hourly rate.

I don't think i've ever shot a single exit from a reception. Usually that's around midnight here, the guests have been drinking and dancing for a few hours, and i'm long gone.
