Just picked up my 7D last night and really looking forward to getting out and using it. Read some excellent writeups for the camera by motorsport photogs and it will replace my 50D. How does everyone rate the battery life of the 7D. Wondering about getting a grip for the camera for motorsport events.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Congrats, as for your battery question its pretty good. The battery last me about 700 shots with no flash. But i got the battery grip because i have big hands and the camera feels a lot better gripped

With review & general messing around 700 is easy on one charge.

You can do 3-4000 with the LCD off and minimal chimping, heard someone got 7000 on one charge at an airshow once.

I can go a whole day at the race track without a problem, only once have I had to change batteries, and I'm not sure the first was over 50% when I started.

Awesome, thanks for the replies. I like having the grip for the additional shutter button when shooting portrait and adding the bulk to the 70-200 2.8 lens.

It's great to be a part of the 7D club finally. Been waiting to pick this one up for a while now.

And i know myslef id din't last very long during the winter if you use an IS lens and have the live view screen on for manual focusing intermittently.

If you're worried get a spare battery you'll need one for the grip anyway.

Some amazing shots people have taken, especially the landscapes. They certainly have the wow factor.I am newbie to the 7D. Just experimenting with the camera and I captured a shot of my mum and my GSD Kodi sat on the sofa..It was taken indoors, but I replaced the background with the sky and softened the shot slightly for a more relaxed feel.

Captured during morning light. The red on the hummer's chest is reflection of the nectar. Kind of a cool effect I think.
