I really appreciate the feedback, I had the lens about 3 months now and when I first got it, it was dead on as far as focusing. But this past weekend it did not come off the body and ALL my photos came out like this. I also tried a few still shots using a tripod to take out the motion blur and when uploaded to Lightroom, the focusing is very inconsistent. I had shipped it out to Canon to get recalibrated.

hmm. alright well I hope the calibration takes care of it for you! keep us updated.

When it's calibrated, does Canon essentially just perform a MA for the user? Or do they re-program something inside the lens? Also what is estimated turnaround time? I'm having the same issue with this lens, and had trouble identifying proper M.A. myself. I haven't shot it much since I did M.A., but would feel better if Canon did it.

come to think of it, I've had this problem with this lens myself also! :) it just hasn't happened in a while, but I've experienced it before. I kind of forgot about it. lol

Hey Karim,

I'm just using a plain old umbrella when I get out. One of the considerations was to make sure water did not fall on the front element/filter, as that would really blur out the image.

It makes it hard to hold the camera, because one hand has to hold the umbrella. I'd imagine it would be especially so if you intend to mount the 70-200 on it.

For these 2 images I had my Sigma 30mm on it. Not weather sealed or anything, and the exterior actually got quite moist, both body and lens, despite being held closely under the umbrella.

Nothing untoward has happened with the camera or lens, so I think it should be pretty safe—just don't overdo it; I was out for not longer than 15-30 minutes in light drizzle, not enough time for water to work its way through gaps and kill the electronics, I don't think.

If you're going to do football, probably stuck in a pit somewhere for some time, I'd definitely get some kind of cover to make sure things remain dry-ish.

What were your camera settings for this. I can't ever seem to get decent night shots with the Siggy. Flash used?

It is something within the lens itself since they did not require the 7D body when I shipped it in. I didn't want to mess with the hassle of adjusting the MA since it was still under warranty, I sent the lens in Monday and so, I'll keep you update once I get it back.

I'm surprised about that. Because, it could also be a communication issue between the camera and the lens.

I was thinking the same thing, but once I get it back I'll try it out on my 5D2 as well as the 7d. I just a bit depressing knowing I spent so much on the lens and having an issue with it.

hm. what was your problem? as in, what kind of indecency are we talking about? :D

For me, because I was going to hold the camera one handed, I set the shutter to also activate focus on half press (I usually set it to only do metering), and I used zone AF because I did not want to be fiddling with the joystick with one hand.

I used ISO3200, stuck it in Av, at ƒ/2.0, saw that it gave me decent (sorry couldn't resist) shutter speeds of over 1/100 to minimize handshake, then started concentrating on framing. No flash, as that would so ruin the covertness of taking street photos. Therefore, no AF assist either.

How did you do it?

Nyla, SOOC. Taken with 70-300L, which is actually a great portrait lens.

 I've seen this look before. Usually shortly followed by a diaper change... bw!

My wife was surfing over my shoulder and made a same comment as she held our 2 month old.
