Very nice, very sharp!

Here's a picture shot with the 85mm f/1.8 (@2.0). Pictured is the brake unit of a Virtual Reality cycling trainer - my buddy as I'm getting in shape for Alpe d'HuZes, a cycling event for the fight against cancer in which I'll ride up the legendary Alpe d'Huez 6 times on one day :p

Thanks- my dog is only slight more cooperative than my wife (which means she's not very cooperative at all.) It was hard to get her to sit still.

Good ol' trusty Canon EF 100 f2.8 macro USM. Not the L version.
I had the money for the L version but decided to try this version first... I always wonder how much "better" the L would be. But despite my curiosity, I'm very happy with the non-L. I got it used from a POTN member and paid significantly less than half the cost of new 100L, so I'm chuffed.

IME, if I could have focused close enough with my EF-S 18-55 IS then the photo would be almost the same quality. The edges would be slightly worse and there would be more distortion with the 18-55. I don't think the 18-55 gets enough credit. If the subject were far away, however, the 18-55's budget optics start to reveal themselves and not in a good way.

Wow! That's very impressive and lot's to say about Canon optics- non-L especially! I gave my son my first DSLR(40D) and a couple lenses for his birthday. The 18-55 was the kit lens and he ha produced some rather stunning photos with it. Like you said, maybe under rated under most conditions.

Canon 5D Mark III, Canon 7D, 40D, Canon SL-1, Canon 300mm f2.8L IS USM, 100-400L IS USM, f2.8 70-200L IS USM, Canon 24-105L IS, Canon 40mm f2.8 Pancake, Rokinon 14mm f2.8, Tokina 16-28mm F2.8 At-X PRO, Canon 10-22, Canon 28-135, Canon 18-55, Battery Grips, lots of other junk

I think the blue version works better than the black and white; it feels colder and lonlier.

Thanks for the input. I think you're right!

Driving along, I see a bunch of peacocks and peahens, so I stop, and see him give her a kiss, appropriately for Valentines day, :)
