This was one of a series of 20 portraits I took of her while testing the 100mm f/2.8L macro on my 7D. I got ten keepers out of the series which I was fairly happy with, seeing as it was my first real go with a new lens!
This next one is the cat's nose. Same camera, lens, and lighting. The poor cat is usually my test subject for all new lenses and on this occasion I was investigating the relationship between the subject distance and the magnification factor of the macro lens. As it happened it was largely academic as this was as close as I could get before the batting and hissing started.

I'd consider cloning out the very, very small white catch light in both eyes that's kind of distracting because it's so small. Tiny detail I'm sure you'd clean up before delivering a final product though! The baby's blankets make for a colorful background and it appears the lens and camera did their part, very sharp! 7D | EOS M | Sigma 30mm f/1.4 | Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS USM | Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM | Canon EF-M 22mm f/2 STM | flickr

drew Senior Member More info | Feb 09, 2011 21:53 | #1236 I imagine it's fantastic, if not a bit long on a crop body. I remember reading in a number of books that macro lens double as great portrait lenses. I'm sure it's true 7D | EOS M | Sigma 30mm f/1.4 | Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS USM | Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM | Canon EF-M 22mm f/2 STM | flickr
