We should offer some sort of asylum, if the forums (POTN) don't already. :D

We'd have to start a POTN Christmas Island Club for those seeking Asylum.

Noted.

Bridge players have some serious problems. Some guy turned up 2 hours early this morning ringing our doorbell want to get it to get his seat. I tried to explain to him I only just got here, we open at 1, and he can't come in for security reasons and all he did was try and argue with me. Seriously, what is wrong with people!

Australian retailers that employ a total of 76,000 people have launched a campaign to force the federal government to level the playing field as they battle against foreign websites offering tax-free goods.

The campaign, backed by Myer, David Jones, Harvey Norman, Target, House, Borders, Angus & Robertson and a number of others, began today with the placement of full-page advertisements in some of the nation's newspapers.

The Govt better not fold under pressure! The $'s good right now, but I can be pretty certain said tax would not be removed if the dollar falls...Which is probably will in the future.

There's a nice handy list of stores to avoid at all costs (excuse the bad pun) in the future. I saw that article on SMH this morning too and the attitude of these companies really grinds my gears. When they're "downsizing" (read: laying off staff by, for example, installing self service checkouts) the rationale is that its for the good for shareholders; but when they face genuine competition from another legitimate source of the same stock then its "un-Australian to buy from overseas and oh-please-won't-someone-think-of-the-jobs-that-will-be-lost?!?!"

If I (as a consumer with zero buying power) can buy the exact same product shipped from an overseas retailer for 40% cheaper than Harvey Norman (with massive buying power in the wholesale market for stock, shipping, insurance and every other cost along the way) sells it for, then that's not my fault, nor the Australian Tax Office's fault.

Its blatant profiteering from Gerry Harvey and as such, he can kindly lick my balls.

Exactly, with the ensd result being that goods costs more to buy in Australia than many other countries. If their (retailers) sales were good this holiday season then they wouldnt be making an issue, sounds like they want to blame direct imports for their low sales. Time for australian retailers to step up and offer consumers a better deal rather than complain about the system being unfair.

Personnaly i am happy to pay 10% more for an item in australian shop which offers services like friendly and helpful advice and the ability to look at the item in the flesh. But you cannot blame consumers when retailers here are 30% more expensive, of course they will hit the interwebs for a better deal.

Great shots Davo, I think your wedding work is in the top few on this site, very unique.

I'd love to know how you're liking the Sigma 85? I have the 50 and it's brilliant, but I'm a tight crop kind of guy and I've been eyeing off the 85 sometime next year.
