No definitely not! The photo club is just based at the Uni. It's open to anyone.

Yeah I know how you feel, I've been through that a few times.

It's pretty annoying to say the least!

Same here, I'm in a rut at the moment due my current workload...after march I should have a bit more free time. :)

Hi this is a post copied from the Melbourne thread, only applicable to Melbourne photographers, may be handy for you guys in Melbourne:

How many people are you guys getting to your events?

Although I didn't take it, here is a little bit of PhotoClub related tax from me tonight. I'm down the front there, giving the first week's "Basic Photography" tutorial to about 160 people. Lecture theatres are cool..

We also had a pretty good photo showoff/critique session afterward that ran for an hour or so. Everybody seemed to be getting into it in a big way! :)

That's what I said after Christmas, and now it's March!

Hey awesome! Great to see other clubs out there doing something similar!

We had similar numbers for our most recent workshop where we got Kah Kit Yoong to come give a talk on landscape/travel photography. We haven't run this basic photography workshop before, but we had a previous "social photography" workshop which had about 90 or so (which was last year). The room was horrible though.

I used to teach at Uni before I started my full time job and lectures are a real test of your presentation skills - well done!

Haha. Yeh, my work lately has been for an exhibition, once that's finished on the 20th it'll all calm down for me. I have the bulk of the job finished - Ie. the 52 page exhibitor guide, now it's just working the registration door for 3 days and a free trip to Melbourne to do it.

Ps. Andrew, looks like the photo club is pretty big!!! For some reason I wouldn't have expected that.

I just checked out Kah Kit Yoong's website.. nice! :) One of our members just did some work experience with Daniel Boud (external link) and asked him if he'd like to come and give a guest talk. He said he would be up for that - looks like we've got this semester's Event Photography tutorial covered!

What sort of program are you running? We've got weekly tutorials/workshops (only open to club members at the moment), and then an outing nearly every weekend. It's pretty full on, lol. We would usually run the tutorial twice a week as not everyone can make the friday session, but our executive team got screwed this semester with our timetables. I actually have a "water resource engineering" tutorial from 4-6 on Fridays.. so I'll need to sweet talk my tutor a few times during semester to get out and teach :p

Yeah, it was a little daunting! I've been teaching for years, first with the air force cadets and then last year with the photoclub.. but nothing ever on this scale before! I got some good feedback, so I'm happy :)

Haha, we were surprised with the number of people who signed up this semester. We peaked at 300 last year, but now with 400+ we've got about 1% of the student population! :o

I went to a talk he gave at the Australian centre for photography alongside Tony Mott - to be honest, he didn't actually sound like he knew what he was talking about... sure, he's a talented photographer but he also seems to be handed work (and paid for) that other photogs have to do for free (like the Faster Louder BDO backstage shots).

Sure, I have some sour grapes because I was meant to be shooting soundwave 2 years ago for a major music mag and their credentials were declined because "even more important agencies didn't get approved" and when I saw the press pass list his name was on it shooting for "himself"!

He annoys me.

I can only comment on my dealings with him - Kah Kit was very generous with his time, he provided his time to give a pro bono lecture to over 160 students at the University of Melbourne - that makes him alright in my book!

Some very nice tax has been posted recently.

Found this visitor to my backyard this weekend while cleaning up. As an arachnophobe, I almost died on the spot and had to calm myself before grabbing the camera. It's almost 125mm (5 inches) tip to tip.
