I shoot a lot of dirt track races, and i just bought a T2i with an 18-55mm lens and the 70-250 i think is what the other one is. cant think of it off the top of my head. Anyways i get great shots while the sun is up, but that's just the beginning of the race, to me the best shots and when the best accidents happen after the sun goes down. I was wondering what the best flash would be to get the fast shutter speed, to get a good picture in the dark. I am an a novice photographer i have been taking pictures for many years but last year was my first with my rebel XS, and got a lot of good shot but looking for better with my T2i this summer. please remember i'm on a tight budget. around 200 max for a flash.

thanks for any info you can give me.

Beyond technique: if you go to a night race in the Midwest, you'll find that hardcore pro race photographers don't use something as small as a Canon shoe-mount flash. For decades, the night-racing flash of choice has been a Norman, (external link) a big and expensive portable strobe that requires a large battery and is as powerful as an AC monolight.

This is a real motorsports flash.

This is what a Norman flash looks like. At the indoor race we're attending, several racing photographers care carrying these. They use Normans because of their high power.
