just curious if anyone has or uses this version. i've never really messed with any photoshop stuff other than a little in dpp that came with the camera. all my research points to lightroom 3 as a good choice, i thought for learning and the price this might be a good option for the time being, as most of my pp will be mostly personal stuff here and there. any input would be great thanks. also going to try downloading the trail and see how i like it.

Lightroom Student &Teacher Edition has exactly the same functionality as the regular software; the only difference is that it is reduced in price for educators and students.

You can't beat the educational discount! Of course, it's good to get the trial, and I'd also take the time to read up on Lightroom and learn how to integrate it into your workflow. There are tutorials available through Adobe, Lynda.com and LightroomKillerTips.com that can help you get jump-started. If you do decide to go with the purchase, I'd advise you to get one or more of the excellent books that will take you through using Lightroom by Victoria Bampton, Martin Evening and Scott Kelby.

Be aware when purchasing the student teacher edition you get the disk, and you then have to provide adobe with proof of your eligibility before they email you a serial number. This is a copy of your student id, and some additional proof of enrollment.

Other than that works just like the full version.

On sites like journeyed.com or academicsuperstore.com you send them your proof of eligibility prior to ordering. I am eligible for academic discounts and it appears that only the pricing is different, not the software.

I'm not sure about LR but other Adobe "CS" products are not upgradeable with the student additions. It's still the best way to go though!

Have you checked with the bookstore of your school yet? It's not uncommon to find prices even better than directly from Adobe or other online sources.

just got a version of PS5 extended student/teacher version $ 199.95 and LR3 $99.95 at bookstore. contacted Adobe and was told there is no difference in software except price.with student ID you get disc and license. A great deal if you qualify.

Yep. Which would cost roughly the same as buying a "full" student version. Both way cheaper then "full normal" editions. ;)

It's always said and accepted that there's no difference between the educational version and the "regular" version but I wonder if that's always the case.
When I start up Adobe Illustrator CS the splash screen says, "educational version." Why go to the trouble and expense to change your programming (even slightly) so that the program tells you on screen "educational version"? Then you'd also have to manufacture separate disks and have separate distribution channels. That just doesn't make sense if there's no difference.
I also have Adobe GoLive ed version and there's something different about it too, but I can't remember what and can't run it now because it won't work with Win7.

As far as Adobe saying there's no difference? I checked with Canon before buying my camera because there were a couple features I definitely wanted, and I was told they were there. They're not. (It's still a great camera.:))So maybe the Adobe rep knew what they were talking about, or maybe they were just repeating the "common knowledge" that the ed versions are the same as regular versions.

With both LR3 and CS5 the student/teacher and full versions are identical. The proof of this is that there is only one trial version that is downloaded. At the end of your trial you purchase the serial number through either the normal or educational store and enter it. Entering the serial number does not enable or disable features. The application remains the same.
