Here's my first attempt at a portrait with my new Alien Bees. One 800 at full power into a small umbrella to right of camera: One 400 at about 1/4 power into a similar umbrella at left of camera and one Canon430EX ii for hair light.

Any suggestions or comments?

I like it. Perhaps the hair light is spilling down on to the right side of her face too much?

Looks pretty good except for the hairlight spilling onto her face.

So, hair light farther back past her shoulder?

I'm also thinking I need to get her farther away from the backdrop and shoot with less depth of field because the background is too distracting??? Agree?

I think that is subjective. Usually more space is better.

It may just be me but I would have set the main light to the left and the fill to the right. Overall the photo is good except the shadow falls from right to left. Most people see left to right so it is more natural to see a shadow fall from left to right. Again it's just how I see it for this particular photo. IMHO.
