Ok, I will be shooting a bowling match for a high school team. After getting more details from the coach, I will have access to the far end of the lane (1 lane over). I will be using the 300 2.8 from that end. I asked about setting up a remote camera to capture their approach, too. He likes the idea. I will have the MkII w/ 24-105 on a small tripod (about 1-2' high) to capture the approach. I know I can trigger the camera with a PWII remotely, because I've done this for soccer. My question is can I sync both cameras to fire at the same time off the PWII I have attached to the hotshoe on the camera I have? I'm quite certain it can be done, I'm just unclear on the specifics. Thanks.

You have one PW on the hotshoe of the camera in your hand and another attached with a cable release on the remote? It can be set so when you click the shutter on the camera in your hand the remote will also fire.

Yes, that is what I want to do. Unfortunately, my kit is at home and I am not. I will tinker when I get home.

Kevin, the set up for a remote for bowling would be just the same as shooting soccer. I am not sure about HS kids but, I was hired to shoot a PBA tournament once and I tested a remote on the approach with a couple of the pro's during a practice round and we discovered that the motor drive was to distracting so that idea was nixed. As you said these are HS kids and it may be no problem. One suggestion before you start your setup is find out how many of the bowlers are right or left handed you will want to set the remote on the side majority side this way you don't get alot back shots on the follow thru.

For soccer, I had my son sitting at the end of the field with the PW in his hand. This allowed me to move about and give him something to do. I thought about the noise of the camera going off. I might actually set it up with the 70-200 and will allow me some more distance.

Yes, the PW on camera can trigger the other camera each time the shutter clicks, but beware that the timing is going to be a few miliseconds different. To get them to fire at the same time, you need to remote both cameras and trigger with a third PW. The motor drive on camera will fire the remote camera each time the shutter clicks on camera 1. The PW1 (Transmitter) can remotely trigger at burst rates either mounted to camera 1 or by depressing and holding the test (fire) button. The early versions of PWII could not do this because of the built in relay mode, but later version's firmware had this fixed. (learned that from doing baseball remotes.

Bottom line, if exact sync is not critical, it will work and is much easier firing camera 2 with the PW mounted on camera 1. If exact sync is needed, you need a third PW and a second trigger cord.

Thanks, folks. No, timing sync is not critical.
