No, there isn't. Image file formats like TIFF, JPEG, PSD are rasterized/rendered/bitmapped file formats. The specification of these files allow the image editor to write the editing instructions directly to fields in the file header space so there's no need for a sidecar file. XMP sidecar files exist because Adobe decided that its software should never alter the contents of a raw file in any way. In comparison, Canon's DPP writes directly to CR2 files and does not create sidecars.

Thanks for the information. Was trying to decide whether to use dng but think I will stay with cr2
