Well in my area the 5d1 is about 1,400$ used (roughly) and the 5d2 is about 2,300$ used (again just roughly)

For the lenses you mentioned, Maaybe, not the 135L it does not fit my style, but the other two, maybe... It'd be a tough choice however.

Your right, its not really going to take better photos than the 5D classic, but I do like some of the new updates to the camera.

In some instances I think it like trading in your perfectly good running truck for the newer model because you like changes they've made.

My 5D Classic still has good trade value and if I wait another year it wont.

And of corse its gear lust

I will have my mind made up by Wednesday.

That right there is what pushed me into leaving the 5d1 behind.

I think as a camera it'll always have -some- value because of its FF sensor, but overall it'll quickly go down once 5d3 (or equiv) is out. Similar to how the 30D was pretty extinguished by the 50D / 7D.

Though make no mistake about it, MA is a nice feature! and LV is very very useful at times.

Amazing what a little micro-AF adjustment did to some of my lenses, especially my Sigma 50 1.4.

Also, incredible "crop-ability" with 21mp and the high ISO is no doubt better.

I say get it! I just got a great deal on a used one otherwise I would have bought a new one.

If it truly is gear lust...I would pass on the 5DII and wait it out for a year or so until it's replacement is available. You can then either purchase the new 5DIII or ge the 5DII at a much reduced price.

Again, if you cannot put a finger on exactly how the 5DII will make your photos better, why upgrade?

For me, it was easy. Two features of the 5DII made me switch:

1. The extra pixels made a difference. I print large, usually 24x36 and the resolution of the 5DII is very noticable.

2. Live view for composition and focusing. I wear glasses and have a problem looking through the 5D's viewfinder...especiall​y on bright days or when the sun is to my back. The 5DII's live view is heaven sent for critical composition and focus using the 10x zoom.

Now if you cannot identify features of the 5DII that will improve your photos...don't let the gear lust get the best of you. The 5D is a very capable camera and if you have money burning in your pockets, put it towards either a great photography vacation or a lens.

There's no indication that it will depreciate significant amount. It might drop to $800 or it might stay the same as the $1000 could be the floor for a FF camera. However, I doubt it would drop to half it's current value in a year's time.

I doubt the 5d3 (or equiv) would come in at 2,2-2,5k it is very likely to start in at least 3k.

Though you have to factor in used prices as well. After 6months, there will be used models for -200 to -300$. which starts dropping everything else.

Personally, i can't wait for the 1ds4, so i can grab a 1ds3 or 1ds2.

I'm very likely to purchase either a 1ds3 or 1ds2 within the next year. the 7d might have had me, had it featured dual-cards.

Well, it is good I'm not the only one breaking my head about getting or not getting a new 5DII... I had been looking at B&H page 5 times a day, adding it to my shopping cart, and deleting them, ( 5DII with the grip and the 70-200 2.8 MKII).

I already have the 70-200 2.8 IS MKI and a 7D, but I guess I have been reading this forum too much and got the bug to get a FF... So, after a week, this morning I placed the order and they will be here... But I still not sure if I want to keep the camera (Keep on thinking how pissed I would be if the 5DIII comes out soon, just like it happen when I got the 70-200 2.8 IS I ) And I'm just having buyers remorse... (The good thing is that if I keep it, I can share the memory cards, and batteries... Again, if I keep it.

Judging from the way the 5D dropped once the 5DII was released, I would expect the same with the 5DII. I think we'll see them in the $1500 mark upon release of the 5DIII.

At what time did you pace your order? I placed mine at 10am and no tracking number, or shipping email yet (I get the over night delivery).

Maybe they know I have my doubts about the 5DII and are holding my order...

I order around 10am
