If your copy of Lightroom has been actually registered, you could shell out the $100 for the update. But, your friend may have messed you up for upgrading by violating the license agreement -- if you have any question about this try running the Help/Upgrade routine and see if Adobe honors your installation.
Until you sort out your Lightroom upgrade issues to get LR3 (you may need to shell out full price if the copy you got can't be registered) you can get your files "workable" by downloading the Adobe DNG Converter and running your 60D files through it -- Lightroom can work with them. You have to get the latest converter to match the 60D, and then convert it to the format that will match LR2.
DPP also needs to be upgraded in all likelihood -- you should at least have the software that came with the 60D directly installed (upgrading your prior installation) or you can go to the Canon website to get the very latest upgrade.
