Started playing with milk into water, love the results.
I can't see myself getting bored with drops any time soon, still so many things I want to try.

I just joined this forum and am amazed by the skill people posses here. I really need help though since I am a complete newbie to photography. I have the Canon 18-55, Sigma 10-24, Canon 55-200 and 70-300 lens. I also have a good tripod and remote shutter control with no extra flash. Out of the lens that I have I was told the 70-300 is a macro lens. Could I attempt shots like these with what I currently have or what else should I get so I can start learning? I really need help because when I go to a camera shop I feel like all they want is my money and not to help me along the way. Thank you for any help and all the great shots to motivate me.

Thanks archer, really enjoying shooting drops at the moment.

Krice, the lenses that you have will do fine, I've shot most of mine with a 24 -105 @ about 100mm (on a 450D). The lens choice comes down to having a small enough minimal focus distance to fill the frame, so your 70-300 should do quite nicely (hope that makes sense).
I would suggest getting at least 1 external flash with the ability to go off camera. There's 2 ways of lighting, either reflecting off a background or firing the flash through a background. So far all of mine have been with a flash either in a softbox or through a coloured plastic sheet directly behind the drop and one flash of to the side directly on the drop, if you're wanting multiple colours (Max power of the flashes @ 1/32).

For doing drops, there's a number of techniques you can use (there's a ton of info available on the web, a number of youtube videos out there), for collisions though it needs to be very controlled to get anywhere near consistent results.
For that you'll probably need to get a drop system, I can't remember getting any decent collisions before I got the drip kit (I'd be interested to see if anyone is getting decent collision results from a non valve delivery system). I've got Brian Mumfords Time machine with a drip kit, there are a couple of others available.

Good luck, hope to see some images soon.

Have a look at this thread, some good stuff in here
