Now I find it is acting strangely. When plugged into my 50D, it won't AF, display the Menu, or allow viewing of the images (arrow button). I recently changed the batteries, and it will fire remotely so I am suspecting the receiving / wired unit. The code matches. Flickr

I don't ever remember the Cleon C8 controlling your screen by displaying menus or viewing images? It only acts like the shutter button, half press and full press. I re-read my OP and realized how confusing it was. What I meant was that when the receiver unit is plugged into the camera, the on camera controls do not operate the AF, Menu and playback (arrow) functions. I aso believe that I may have the original Cleon, not the 8. This unit is a couple of years old, and I couldn't find my receipt or packaging. There is only the on / off switch, and one button on each unit. Flickr
