I've had a Cleon 8 for a couple of years now, but haven't used it much. Now I find it is acting strangely. When plugged into my 50D, it won't AF, display the Menu, or allow viewing of the images (arrow button). I recently changed the batteries, and it will fire remotely so I am suspecting the receiving / wired unit. The code matches.

Am I alone? Is it kaput? Any suggestions? ?

I bought one and it stopped working after 4 months. Changed out batteries and everything. I use PocketWizards with a motor drive cable now.

I've had one about 2 years and recently used it. Still works fine. Original batteries.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

I don't ever remember the Cleon C8 controlling your screen by displaying menus or viewing images? It only acts like the shutter button, half press and full press. If you have moved your focus to the back button and off your shutter button, then AF won't work either.

You are right Teamspeed. I re-read my OP and realized how confusing it was. What I meant was that when the receiver unit is plugged into the camera, the on camera controls do not operate the AF, Menu and playback (arrow) functions. I aso believe that I may have the original Cleon, not the 8. This unit is a couple of years old, and I couldn't find my receipt or packaging. There is only the on / off switch, and one button on each unit.

I'm not sure I want to dick around with this one as I'm concerned about any negative impact it may have on the camera. I'll spring for a new wireless set up.
