I was browsing the Canon rumors site and came across this article below. It states "PR has posted a report that Canon USA will be raising prices as much as 10% come February 1, 2011. I have been unable to confirm that is going to happen. The reported reason is to combat the weak US dollar."

Very interesting...just thought I'd share.

Well, I hope not. I believe CR1 is his lowest level rating, correct?

PS. I like the new avatar. :D C&H rocks!

Haha C&H is definitely the best! I am not sure how he rates actually, but I hope it isn't true either.

Don't know if it's true but the rumor did push me over the edge into ordering the 70-200 f4L IS. With the current rebate about to expire and a potential 10% increase it'd be about $200 more expensive than it is right now.

Yeah - doesn't look like it's going to get better any time soon either.

That would be very disappointing to me because one on the main reasons I'm using Canon gear now is that I found Nikon's equipment to be over-priced/too expensive despite the fact that I really liked it. I started with Nikon, and then they had their big price hike, now their lenses are consistently much more than Canon's equivalent.

Canon 17-55mm IS $990 - Nikon 17-55mm $1399
Canon 24-70 $1250 - Nikon 24-70 $1720
Canon 70-200mm f/4 IS $1100 - Nikon has no excellent yet affordable "prosumer" zoom only the $2300 70-200mm 2.8 VR II
Canon 85mm f/1.8 $350 - Nikon 85mm f/1.8 $450

Not to mention Canon's newer lenses already had a price hike from the older models, which is normal. 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II, and the 70-300mm L. They have a pretty high price tag as it is, so I hope Canon isn't thinking about making that worse.

Nikon D600 & D7000, Nikon 35mm f/1.8 DX, 50mm f/1.8G, 85mm f/1.8G, 18-55MM VR, Tamron 70-300mm VC, SB-700.

The price of everything is going up...and will continue for a while I have a feeling.

No shock at all if Canon does actually raise prices.

Won't really bother me much--I'm mostly buying used canon lenses these days... until Canon gets with it and offers multi-year warranties on their gear (like every other manufacturer out there), I hardly see the point.

damn i hope not, was thinking of switching to canon for the 7D and 16-35L, but this might just convince me to stay with nikon if true.

You all may have noticed that this thread just got a whole lot shorter. POTN has very few rules, but one of them is "NO POLITICS". Ignore that at your peril.
