We are back, so lets get this off with a bang guys & gals

This will be a precipitant judging competition so do not enter if you can’t be a judge the following week.

How the judges will score your submissions.

1=best (no flaws)
2=very good (minimal flaw in composure, exposure)
3=good (some flaws in composure, exposure but content outweighs)
4=mediocre but not good enough for contest purposes (flaws in composure, exposure and content does not outweigh)
5=why is this here?

RULES:
1. You must be a member of POTN prior to Nov 1, 2010 in order to participate in this contest.

2. You may enter only one photo a week.

3. All cameras are allowed AS LONG as you are an active member of POTN, and not just here for the contest And just a reminder: banning disqualifies you from the contest.

4. The photo must be your own, original work.

5. If you are "banned from the forums" during the competition, your photos will be disqualified.

6. You may enter any photo you like (landscape, macro, sports etc) EXCEPT nude (since this is not the G&N section).

7. You do not have to enter every week.

8. The photographers of winning photos will be judges for the following week.

9. Please remember to include the EXIF for your photo. This contest is also to help others to learn and grow from what they see.

10. Contest ends December 31st, 2011 (subject to change!).

11. This thread will be the place where you discuss submitted photos. Please do not post anything other than photos in the LMSYS photo thread.

12. Photos must have been shot on or after Oct 1, 2010. We want this contest to keep pushing us so lets use newer work!

NOTE: USE OF WATERMARKS IS UP TO THE PHOTOGRAPHER! NO ONE WILL BE SCORED LOWER DUE TO THE USE OF A WATERMARK.

Good luck and enjoy the competition!

Hi, I'm new to this challenge...what does LMSYS mean?

Whats the largest image attachment I can post?

Is this a weekly challenge?

How many photographers win a week if its weekly?

What is the cuttoff date and time for this challenge?

Is a dog's mouth cleaner than a humans?

Is the Post Office open on Groundhog Day?

Who really is airbutchie?

Is Harleypugs that photographer I saw on TV on the sidelines of an NFL Monday Nigfht Football game?

...and on and on and on...ad infinitum.

:)

Well newbie Jason, let me answer your questions:

Let Me Show You Something

Jason C wrote in post #11564380 (external link)
Whats the largest image attachment I can post?

Standard forum rules apply to the largest attachment. You can enter smaller photos, but it will do you absolutely no favours at all. (1024 x 1024 is the largest size)

Jason C wrote in post #11564380 (external link)
Is this a weekly challenge?

Why, yes it is! The 1st three judges are volunteers. They will select a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, and potential Honourable Mentions from the photos entered in the competition. These podium people will become the judges for the following week. So if you know you're going to be away or too busy to judge the following week, do not enter this week, etc.

Jason C wrote in post #11564380 (external link)
How many photographers win a week if its weekly?

We have one overall winner, a 2nd place, and a 3rd place. We have 3 able judges who will, between themselves, score every photo, collect the scores and determine a winner.

Jason C wrote in post #11564380 (external link)
What is the cuttoff date and time for this challenge?

Friday Evening will be the cutoff time for each challenge, a little grey area is whether this is determined EST or PST in the U.S. So if you want to make sure your photo gets in, post up early!

Jason C wrote in post #11564380 (external link)
Is a dog's mouth cleaner than a humans?

Yes, dogs bark and whine. Humans speak all kinds of crap.

Jason C wrote in post #11564380 (external link)
Is the Post Office open on Groundhog Day?

It is in England

Jason C wrote in post #11564380 (external link)
Who really is airbutchie?

Word has it that he was abducted by aliens in this life, he was King Kenry VIII in a former life, someone who secretly loves Nikons, and played an "extra" in the movie Toy Story (look out for the plastic army guy!). Other than that, we don't know who he really is!!

Jason C wrote in post #11564380 (external link)
Is Harleypugs that photographer I saw on TV on the sidelines of an NFL Monday Nigfht Football game?

If you are talking about the guy chatting up the cheerleaders and getting blackmailable (new word!) photographs, then yes, that was Harleypugs

Jason C wrote in post #11564380 (external link)

But of course!

LoL!

How's the cropper coming along, Matt? You're also seeming to really dig that Sigma 85/1.4 of yours, from what I've seen.

Geez, I go to work for a few hours and you guys get the new contest up & running. Way to go!

Harm, I would suggest putting a definitive cutoff time on Fridays lest someone get upset about it later. I'm going to do my best NOT to wait until the last minute to decide on something to post this round. Will there be monthly winners and a "LMSYS" photographer group of honors at the end, or is that too much of a takeoff on SMWYG?

Jason, you crack me up, but you forgot 3 key questions. Maybe someone "can answer me these questions 3..."

1. What is your quest?
2. What is your favorite color?
3. What is the airspeed of an unladen swallow?
:D:D:D

1. To not get banned from the chat groups this year.
2. Red which is probably why I am at high risk for banning.
3. The airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow is roughly 11 meters per second, or 24 miles per hour. :-)

I thought about putting a definitive time to close up the competition every week, but everyone has work, life and all kinds of matter that consumes your time. That means that leaving it "open" to be shut when someone is available to do so seems the most logical reasoning.

I don't think it would be "too much of a takeoff of SMWYG", however, we do not have a predefined "set" of judges. Thus, who would judge the end of month competitions, if we were to have one? I think keeping this light and easy will keep everyone on their toes, and will help us all improve.

As for your Monty Pythonesque questions, you're nuts!

That "K" must stand for "King" since you have to know these things when you're a king. :)

No worries from me on the cutoff time. If I don't make it, it's my own fault.

And, I confess I'm a Python fan. That movie was such a classic and is so quotable. In fact, I probably should get a copy of that and watch it again. :D

Midnight eastern time should be a fair enough cut-off time, but hey, that's just my opinion...

Here is some FODDER for debate:

How long we gonna run this thing? Something like 10 months, with November and December off for good bahaviour (my secret Canadian side)?

Do we even want to try to put together our own calendar like the SMWYG challenge? Yeah, I know we'd have to iron out a whole heep of stuff, but thats what debate is for.

Should there be seperate threads for each month, as so we do not create monster threads?

Will there be a Punch n' Pie cerimony for all participants?

Lets chat this thing up...or not...
