You keep talking about absolutes but what is the obsession with story telling in a single image? I haven't seen one of the truly great single photo that tells a story nor do they need to, in fact it would probably make them less if they tried to be stories by themselves. I know my views go against the POTN masses but that doesn't mean I'm wrong or an absolutist nor was Bresson or Winogand absolutists and they were inventing street and photojournalism. And again Joe I shared your view at one time;)

Gotta knock down a few dead presidents so flame on while I'm gone ;):lol:

Allen you are a prize all to your own. I like many here appreciate your contribution each week. I can say that for everyone. I have learned more here in this thread than I can remember and it's because the audience is experienced. We may be green in some ways but in general great photographers hang their hats here (and throughout POTN).

Allen I don't have views that are solid lines in the sand. An example would be spending a day with a war correspondent and noticing the story in his images. Another day might be spent looking at abstracts based on trees. I think I would rather let the circumstance guide rather than build a library of rules and opinions. In the end is what I see not what I know. This may be a bit loose for some. As far as producing the best POTN image in your mind well I don't know where to begin with that one and thank you that is one hell of a compliment. I could say the same for many here. Personally I feel like a beginner. For sure I have some experience but I haven't really lived it on a daily basis for 30 years. I know people who have. They are far deeper than I will ever know. Suffice to say though it is fun and challenging to produce a better image each week and I dearly want to get into a deeper world with my own art and vision. I lust for something that is beyond literal art and I can't quite figure out what that means just yet.

Yeah...well I have a beef to grind with programmers too...

I mean how many times to I need to click a button to install a piece of software?

Yes I want to click ->Next Yes I really want to -> Next Yup...still pretty dame sure I want to -> Next ODL Yes....yes PLEASE let me install this lovely POS software so I can get Unknown errors later ->Next Finally.....YES.....-> Finish

Now we get the lovely status bar......10%.....20%....30 secs......(5 mins later) 100%!!!!! Yet is still churns on for another 10 mins......

I love being a Network Engineer........<puke>

hahahaha!!! I am a programmer!!! Are you installing an application or updating the iPod firmware? The firmware is more risky and will likely have more verification steps. I hate being a network engineer (because I'm not) and I rely on IT to save my bacon in some shops. I hate installers and updates and automatic think for me because we all think alike features too.

Well, not anymore but you get the general idea. Happy Wednesday.

I see you found Svengali ... I've been wondering if he was still kickin'! I have a friend who hangs on that beach every day and plays guitar. He's a great player too. Hope you had a great trip and look forward to some images in the coming weeks.

My degree is programming...but I learned early on that I wasn't a programmer...;)

I am currently trying a low level format of the hd on my iPod classic....

The software rant is just a rant in general....;)

Just ordered a Rokinon 85/1.4, should AF focus better than a Sigma... :p Had a Rok before when I was crop only, looking forward to seeing it's FF output. Now I just gotta find me a precision focusing screen.

Got the 20D's shutter release cleaned and no more sticky button.

I plan on also adding an Olympus 17/2.8 pancake kit lens for my Oly, figure I should have one native lens for the Mu43 body. This particular lens is not very well liked by many, being super soft wide open and that kind of stuff. But my plans for this particular lens will be for more street style candid stuff. Should be able to find one on the cheap.

PoP Photo sure gushed over the Rokinon in a recent issue and the price is pretty sweet.
