Thanks judges and congrats to all for another strong week of submissions with incrediblly different styles. Victor your image was my fave for the week ... I just love that stuff. How do you compare that photo to Allen's wonderful BW ? So wildly different but both fantastic images. Nice and crispy shot, Joe. Also very much liked Hank's "Salvation Comes in a Can." Paul

airfrogusmc I'm a chimper. There I said it... More info | My thought process was the glare coming off those shutters on the door was so intense, almost mirror like and it caught my eye from a half a block away. The other shacks were not what this image is about. THe general shapes were important and some basic detail but this nothing there was as important as that glare to me with this image. I did one where the darks are up more but it absolutely kills the intensity that made me make this image in the first place. White never looks more white than when its against black. So the contrast to me is important. Bringing those blacks and grays up more only then has them competing with the reason I image. Another thing that was pretty amazing was a step to the right or two steps to the left and the glare wasn't as intense. And it was like that for all of 5 minutes, maybe. That was my thinking in this image being the way it is. Not saying that I'm right, just that is my thoughts about it. I think a tighter crop might be in order too.

I thought the exposure choice was unusual and well done. Revisiting the image with your point about the crop in mind, I like it just the way it is. I don't think you want to lose anything from the top or bottom and any cropping from the right would involve losing an important part of the frame. I've learned a lot about thinking outside of my little camera box by hanging out here and this photo is a perfect example. Paul
