Here's the same shot in color.

Below: Not quite the same shot, but taken at about the same time. The sky has less contrast and saturation, but it reflects the actual morning haze when looking in that direction.

Tim looks like you were in Tomales bay no? I like the B/W best. Had some nice sky I see. We should go out and shoot some time. It's fun to socialize, tour around, shoot.

Nice portraits Jon and Allen. Clean and soft (rather than the edge of a razor) in Allen's case. Kristy I like your mug and Harm it looks like your son has come a LONG way since birth. Hope mum is well and dad gets his butt back out shooting some time soon

Joe, yes, it was shot toward Tomales from Bodega head. The fishing boat had just left Bodega harbor.

I think you have my cell phone number - once we get past the holidays, give me a call or PM when you want to go out and shoot.

okay creative people, i need some help/advice. I know absolutely nothing when it comes to off camera flashes etc. I do have the 580EXII, and would like to put it on a bracket + umbrella/softbox combination.

So someone mentioned that I should get a pocketwizard II...Is that the right item to get? also, would I need something on the flash for it to work remotely too? Anything else I should get too? Any help would be great!

Harm, you'll need two, a transmitter on the camera and a second unit that is connected to the 580. I use the Pocketwizard MiniTT1 on camera and a FlexTT5 (external link) on the flash.

You may want to consider just buying a long off camera cord for the flash. It's cheap compared to the radio triggers, and it'll give you some insight and experience before you spend a lot of money on radio triggers.

I also recommend Syl Arena's book on Canon strobes - "Speedlighters Handbook"

With a little kid around, the less wiring the better :D:D I have no issues getting the transmitter, receiver, I didn't think that I needed 2 items - silly me!

Harm I use pocket wizards with my W/L 1200s and my travelite 750s and I really like using them with those strobes. No cords is a great way to go but never with my 580 or my metz 58. Sorry, I can't help.
