You mean you can "print" digital photos? Well how about that...

Thanks for that guys. I was curious, as most of my photos are landscapes, and I'd rather NOT chop off bits here and there. I assume that you also take photos with a certain ratio in mind then?

I shoot portraits and weddings with a 8x10 ratio in mind strictly to allow for any print to be made. For anything I am shooting for me, I always try to fill the frame as I want it with no cropping and print in a 2x3 ratio. I personally see no sense in wasting any of those pixels I paid so much for if I can help it.

If you have a Michael's or Hobby Lobby (Or whatever they are called in your geographic area) go check them out. They have a huge number of ready made frames and mats. This will give you some good ideas for what ratios you can print and frame at minimal cost. Custom framing is the best option but the cost is crazy.

Yeah, you can pick up frames that are 12x18 so they work great for not cropping to a different aspect ratio. It's all in what works best for the image. There's nothing "magic" about a particular aspect ratio, it should be more about the best composition and you can print accordingly.

Standard print sizes are a bit of a headache, though -- finding matte sizes or frame sizes that really fit your "vision".

How'd I manage both 1st and HM?

As for the print exchange idea (a good one says I), what about some kind of community image bank for LMSYS from which one could order images?
