I'm new to photography and have ordered a flash and bounce diffuser from B&H. Both times I received the items quickly with no hassle. So, when I started looking for a lens upgrade, naturally I went back to B&H. They had the lens I wanted, but it was $60 more than Abe's of Maine was selling it for. I called to see if they would price match. I'm on hold for a few minutes and the guy comes back and says that they will not match it. I asked if there was any reason why they could not match it, and he would not give a reason. I've read horror stories about Abe's, so I went ahead and paid the extra $60 and ordered it from B&H.

I went to twitter and posted a little tweet including B&H's @twitter name in the tweet so they would be notified. The tweet said something like "Wish B&H would price match a competitor. $60 is a lot. Guess I'll get it elsewhere."

Like I said, I had already ordered the lens from B&H but wanted to see what kind of response I would get, if any. I received an email this morning from their social media coordinator who had tracked down my account after seeing the tweet and got my email from there. He wanted to let me know that they were sorry for the inconvenience and that they were going to honor the price difference. I explained that I already purchased the lens since I've had good luck with B&H in the past and asked if I could receive a refund for the $60. He said yes and applied the refund to my account.

Great service! They've earned a customer for life.

EDIT: I see that my time line of events was not correct in the original scenario; no wonder everyone thinks I'm a shady bastard. What I did was ask for the price match, they refused so I posted to twitter that I was going to go somewhere else. Didn't hear anything back via twitter for a while so I said the hell with it and bought it at B&H and was fine paying the extra $60 from a more reputable dealer. It wasn't until a day an a half later that I received an email from their Social Media Coordinator asking if I still wanted the lens and for me to call him. I called, explained that I went ahead and ordered the lens from B&H anyway from good prior experiences even though they were higher, he offered to refund me the $60 bucks. Apologies for the mix up.

It would have been much easier if they would have just matched it when you asked. Glad it all worked out in the long run!

dude quit being cheap. 60 bucks extra is nothing. Don't expect B&H to have wal-mart prices.

But yes B&H is a quality service and they are excellent

OK, I'll keep that in mind next time. What in the world was I thinking? Trying to save some cash. I'm an idiot.

Win/win, B&H gets customer and good publicity and you ended up saving a little cash. :) And $60 isn't nothing, that's my gas money for a month, lol..

Someone drives a Prius... lol.

That's pretty impressive effort they went to... If I ever buy something new, B&H will probably be my destination

I've just made my first purchase at B&H and am expecting it this week.. or maybe early next due to holidays recently.

They've improved their costs for Canadian customers and items are much cheaper than locally - but am especially scared to purchase things like lenses and such. What if I have to return/exchange? Not nearly as easy as walking into a store :(

Shouldn't be an issue. You have 15 days to return your items in "new" condition. I called to double check with them about this; "new" condition means not abused and still in mint condition. It does not mean "unopened." You can take it out of the box, use it, and send it back within 15 days for a refund if you don't like it.

Ya, but would have to pay shipping + tracking... not the same as bringing into a store and getting 100% back. C'est la vie I guess! It really SHOULDN'T be an issue.. perhaps just a risk worth taking!

True, but that's the chance you take for the convenience of them delivering to your door. ;)

How much are you shipping costs to Canada from there? Everything I've ordered here in the US has free shipping.
