It worked. I did just that.

True, but that's the chance you take for the convenience of them delivering to your door. ;)

How much are you shipping costs to Canada from there? Everything I've ordered here in the US has free shipping.

edit: Posted so that others can see how progressive this company is. Others aren't! And it sure hurts the pocket book.

Shipping costs to Canada from US can be prohibitively expensive. For instance from my experience, UPS has charged a brokerage fee. Get a bargain on ebay, and the cost is blown away when they ship UPS. There are many posts on the Corvette and Miata forums. I prefer USPS and ask before buying. I won't purchase when the only shipping is UPS only because of the cost.

Our Canadian Government doesn't help either. Tire Rack's prices are excellent. By the time I go through checkout and all the fees and taxes are added it isn't worth the bother, unless they are the only vendor with the brand and size I need. That hasn't happened yet and I buy lots of tires.

Best,

Dave

Adorama is no exception, they do take care of customers. Helen Oster here is doing a great job. I was in a similar situation with price drop, sent email to Helen Oster, she took care of it the same day, folks like these will win customers for life and a good reputation for the Company.

Glad B&H took care of you!

Let me see if I got this right: You decide to pay the extra $60 because you do in fact value a reputable vendor, then you get on twitter, blasting B&H with a lie ... Jeez .. You want to deal with a reputable dealer, but you don't hold yourself to a similar standard.

deronsizemore wrote in post #11564572 (external link)
I'm new to photography and have ordered a flash and bounce diffuser from B&H. Both times I received the items quickly with no hassle. So, when I started looking for a lens upgrade, naturally I went back to B&H. They had the lens I wanted, but it was $60 more than Abe's of Maine was selling it for. I called to see if they would price match. I'm on hold for a few minutes and the guy comes back and says that they will not match it. I asked if there was any reason why they could not match it, and he would not give a reason. I've read horror stories about Abe's, so I went ahead and paid the extra $60 and ordered it from B&H.

I went to twitter and posted a little tweet including B&H's @twitter name in the tweet so they would be notified. The tweet said something like "Wish B&H would price match a competitor. $60 is a lot. Guess I'll get it elsewhere."

Like I said, I had already ordered the lens from B&H but wanted to see what kind of response I would get, if any. I received an email this morning from their social media coordinator who had tracked down my account after seeing the tweet and got my email from there. He wanted to let me know that they were sorry for the inconvenience and that they were going to honor the price difference. I explained that I already purchased the lens since I've had good luck with B&H in the past and asked if I could receive a refund for the $60. He said yes and applied the refund to my account.

Great service! They've earned a customer for life.

Because it didn't quite make sense why they wouldn't match the price. I was told prior to ordering by one person with B&H that typically they only match prices when the other company has a resellerrating.com rating of 6 or higher. Abe's has a rating of 6 or higher. I've also seen numerous other people talk about B&H matching prices of competitors.

The person that got in contact with me for the final sale and price match even told me on the phone that he has no idea why they didn't match the price when I called the first time.

Just because I value buying from a reputable vendor, doesn't also mean I can't save some money in the process.

The dude must make plenty of money if 60 bucks means nothing to him. I buy all my photo gear from BH, a good place to shop for sure.

While we at Adorama will always make every effort to price match to other reputable vendors, it depends upon whose definition of reputable you are relying on! (And it would be extremely unusual for us to give our reasons for not doing so).

Out of curiousity, I checked B&H and Adorama sites and there does NOT seem to be an explicit price match policy. Probably they do a case by case basis. One CSR may say no and another CSR may not.

I can't speak for any other retailer but at Adorama it isn't down to individual CS reps. ;)

Just wondering, why would you NOT give out reasons for not price matching?

Probably for the same reason she won't say "that's a stupid question."

Just kidding, really! I'm sure professional courtesy is the reason. I bought a lens from another camera store once who would match prices of Adorama and B&H, but they would not match the price I showed them from Primo Cameras. (external link)
When the clerk asked me whose price I was quoting, and I told her.. her reply was simply: "We won't match their price." I understood why, even though she did not feel the need to tell me that Primo Cameras is a rip-off, bait and switch place (at best) but more likely down right dishonest.. which they are (or were as I see now).

BTW.. I bought my 7D from primo camers... really, I think I saved about $50 from the B&H price.

Ha! Ha! Gotcha. Professional courtesy is understandable then.

I was gauging/comparing it (to myself) how Amazon has a TV price match guarantee and they list over a dozen or so websites that they will generally match to.

As a consumer, it's nice to see that if the website is not on the list, then I'd have to take my chances on how comfortable I am dealing with XYZ website as opposed to the reputable dealer who have a history of backing up their products. Caveat emptor, right? But yeah, I guess they don't have to explain themselves at all... but it'd be nice. Heh.

You can probably get a feel for the sites that I wouldn't recommend my Grandma to buy from - so we wouldn't price match - by checking the customer feedback at reselleratings, and the blogs by Don Wiss and ThoughtsofDave.
