So I signed up for Flickr Pro for the first time about a year ago. Now it's about to expire and I'm wondering what to do next!

Should I renew? Move to Smugmug/Zenfolio/something else?

I've thought about getting completely out of microstock and trying to sell photos myself... and I see SmugMug has that system built in... but they take a % plus the yearly fee...

What do you guys think? Stick with Flickr or move on?

I have Flickr Pro and Smugmug Pro. They are for different things. Flickr is ugly (tho not as bad as it used to be) and Smugmug is the url I give to people to look at my stuff. But I still pay for a pBase account I haven't posted to for 3 years cause I'm too lazy to get them off.

So why do you use and pay for Flickr Pro?

Does the SmugMug's $150/year seem "worth it" to you?

I have to admit the Pro part is mostly vanity. It allows me to use my SpiveyPhoto.com domain. I was able to sell about $120 worth of pictures last year so it didn't cost me much. When I do a shoot, I tell people they can right click and steal their images or if they want to contribute to the cause they can buy pictures. Some do and some don't. Hard to say whether it's worth it or not. It is to me.

Your photos will be found on flickr with proper key wording. Smugmug is non-exexistent when it comes to SEO.

With some basic html knowledge you can create your own hosting account for a fraction of what smug charges per year. Once you get your hosting setup download wordpress with one of several thousand free themes to create the look you want your website/blog to be. Add the flickr feed and wordpress simple cart and you can sale your own photos without paying anyone but yourself.
