Is buying San Disk CF's from amazon a safe bet?
it is 20 $ cheaper than B&H per 8GB card

Transcend 400x have been working great for me. Fast, reliable and inexpensive. I was a long time Sandisk user until recently. B&H and Newegg generally have good prices on them.

i just bought one as well, works fine and cheaply priced compared to those other crooks.

the one i bought from BH is Transcend COMPACT FLASH CARD 16GB 600X - $75

Good choice - they are great cards that are often overlooked.

I use the Sandisk 60 mb/sec cards because I shoot a lot of sports in raw. I've never had a problem with he buffer filling up, but I also never hold the shutter button down for more than 4 frames.

I'm comfortable using the 30 mb/sec cards for backup or non-sport use.

I got my cards through Amazon and BH.

Another vote for the Transcend 400X (16 & 32gb). Used for both stills and video in my 7D and 5DmkII. I frequently shoot 7D burst sequences up to 1.5 secs and have recorded a continuous 30 minute video with no hiccups.

Amazon had the best pricing the last I checked...

I have a great 32GB Transcend which only reads/writes 15gb. The other 17gb -missing pics. Restoration software wont restore, formatting only reads 15gb.
True it is under warranty but lost some faith in Transcend as a result.
Sandisk has never given me concern - and I will pay a little extra for that.

uhh where did you buy it? What you describe is EXACTLY what happens when you buy a fake card. They take a smaller card and then overwrite the firmware so it reads as a 32gb on windows but in reality its a smaller card.

I have extreme IV 40 MB sec cards. They have made my 40D out perform the specs on the camera.

Im intrested what how the faster CF cards are helping the 40D outperform the specs? I beleive the burst length is limited by the buffer size no card speed.

Does anyone know what speed the buffer can off load at? ie. what is the maximum transfer rate in mb/s of the camera to the card?

Purchased from Newegg - Was reading and writing 32gb for the first few uses - I do/did have pictures filling the other missing 17gb. I have no questions as to its authenticity - it is its performance that has disappointed.

I wont be doing a a lot of FPS shooting either
The number of RAW images per card & to avoid any shot to shot delay is my priority

16gb will do u good if that's ur priority. I use 2 of them and spare cars are all gb.

But my friend actually brought up a good point, she rather use smaller capacity in case of an error she won't lose the whole session.

But I still use my 16gb. Around 500 raws and more than 1000 jpegs. I use raw most of the time so storing that much is a plus for me.

I use a 7D as well

Does the old adage, smaller cards are more reliable still hold true?
I am torn between 8 & 16 GB for my second card, the 16 GB's are at a very attractive price point now

The cards themselves are no different. Its just that if you shoot 16 GB and the card tanks, you will still have 8GB with the smaller cards. With the large card, you may be out everything.

The memory cards today are reliable. Just make sure you format the card before shoots and don't just "Delete" images.

Larger cards mean more possibility for larger data loss vs the flexibility offered by larger cards.I always format, previously had data corruption and lost a shoot, cured me from deleting for good :)

I am thinking of a 16 GB to go with my 8 GB
