My main card is the sandisk extreme pro, it's the one I use all the time. The second card I use is also a sandisk but only the extreme (newest version), the my first spare is the same level 8gb, and my other 2 spares are 8gb extreme 3.

Newest edition extremes are good, it keeps up with the buffer. But the extreme 3 r a little slow. That's just personal experience.

Extreme pros r 90mb/sec, extremes r 60mb/sec, and extreme 3 r 30mb/sec.

Purchased from Newegg - Was reading and writing 32gb for the first few uses - I do/did have pictures filling the other missing 17gb. I have no questions as to its authenticity - it is its performance that has disappointed.

I would run a drive wipe utility and see if you can get those sectors back by forcing the card to remap bad sectors are on the working side.

CCleaner would fit the bill..

Maybe files were transferred to the trash can and not erased from the computer.

I appreciate the tips guys ;) Just had a play with CCleaner with no success.

Will just send it back to Transcend - has a lifetime warranty so might as well use it.

Im intrested what how the faster CF cards are helping the 40D outperform the specs? I beleive the burst length is limited by the buffer size no card speed.

Does anyone know what speed the buffer can off load at? ie. what is the maximum transfer rate in mb/s of the camera to the card?

I re did the test to get the exact info
40D is rated at 17 Raw and 75 high res Jpeg.
At max frame rate (6.5 FPS) I shot until first pause then counted shots. I got 21 Raw and 158 Jpeg. I did the test twice and got same #’s. The buffer is filling up but the camera is writing at the same time to the card.

Here is a good link on camera write speeds but it is a little old so no new cards or cameras.

Interesting link. Makes since that if the buffer can empty to the card fast enough that the buffer would be extended. I wonder how long until the buffer is not an issue and we can shoot unlimited RAW files?

Just ended up getting 2 32g Transcend 400x. I really would have preferred a series of smaller cards the price difference made it not worth it. It was $15 more to go from 16g to 32g ($60 vs $75). Will see how it goes.

I have had good experience (albeit 5 months) with Lexar 16 and 32 GB cards. no failures and I like the 600x versions as I need the buffer to write and get ready for the next one ASAP. Camera is the 7D.
