Congrats on the new lens, jag757!! This is an AMAZING piece of glass and I am sure you will love it.
Just a quick hint: don't be afraid of setting your ISO high with this baby! Anything lower than 1/300 and you can get shake (unless you have bionic arms)

You're right, it seems you're the only one THAT excited

Seriously though, congrats, I'd love to have a 400 but for now I'll give 70-200 II + 2x TC a try first.

Perhaps if you shared what you got it for and how you chose that lens, it might help others and subdue some comments.

Screw 1/300 a sec! Maybe on a mono pod!

That lens was GREAT at 1/800 and higher.

If you can really be stable then 1/500. But if you at first cant get a sharp shot. Raise the ISO or SS if you can and try it again.

ALSO...I see that you have a 7D!!!!!! The 7D and this lens were practically made for eachother! Set the 7D to ISO400-800 and your good all day. Dont be afraid to shoot your 7D at ISO1600-3200!!!!!


This will be my most miss lens from canon. For $1200 you get a 400mm prime!

I agree, and this is a good question. Congrats on your new lens, enjoy it... I've had mine for a year now, and couldn't be happier with it.

Congratulations! I understand your excitement. I too am planning to buy this lens. Hopefully, I can get the funds this week and buy one too.

Congratulations, pay no attention to the "Kill-Joys" out there. Let us know how you like after you take a few shots, I've been looking at the lens for a while.
