Exploring a wooded area not far from my home, I found and tried to sneak on this guy below (until he got tired of my noisy, too close for comfort presence and flew away). I believe he was quietly digesting in the sun, as he was not interested in the many birds and squirrels busying themselves around and just remained perched there a long time, almost motionless.
It might be the same hawk that is stalking my feeders and was ID'd for me by Tom, here:

https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=979884

So, that would be an immature Red Tailed Hawk?

Thanks for looking, C&C welcome.

I chose this one because he is showing his leg and talon:

That's correct, Gerard. It's a juvenile Red-tailed. Nice capture.

That's were you realize how well these beasts blend in the landscape - when perched of course; it's amazing how close the colors of the feathers and that of the bark are.

Thanks - Actually, I'm trying to guess how far I was from the bird; I am pretty sure I should be able to find the subject distance somewhere in the EXIF, but I am unable to find that info (in LR3 or in FastStone Viewer). I sure I saw that type of info somewhere once, but I can't remember where?

If I believe PhotoMe (EXIF viewer) these 3 shots were taken at 20.8 meters (68 ft). I was at 122 meters when I shot the first pic (133 yards). I got progressively closer, shooting some each time I was getting closer since I feared he would take off any time.
At 25.7 meters (84 ft) he started to become agitated and finally flew to a tree farther away. I approached again and 21 m was the closer I could get to him before he decided to choose a tree definitely out of reach of the bugger (me).

Thanks JG, I was lucky to spot him from around 130 m as there was only one angle he was visible from through the trees - he was so well camouflaged that I lost him a couple times hiking through the woods.
