I'm searching a service link Sumgmug or Zenfolio that allows you to buy the digital photo (file.jpg).
This way, I can define a lower price, and will be become simpler to customer.

The only downside is that this service is only available on Smugmug pro (159$/year) or Zenfolio Premium (100$/year).

(1) Are any alternatives cheaper/better?

(2) Does anyone have experiences with this kind of service (sell digital, not print)?

You want to search for something that does "digital downloads" Plenty out there... find your price.

I'm confused...

Digital files should be MORE expensive, not cheaper. You lose print sales over them once you give out the digital files, for example my 8x10 is $15 but my digital file that can print that size is $40.

As for a service, there's a ton out there. Exposure Manager does it, SmugMug does it, Zen does it, PhotoShelter does it, you can set up your own site and use PayPal, many more. Find the service that fits what you want to do most, not by price, you don't want your customers shopping by price, you want them shopping by quality - never get that.
