It might be nice, but I can totally see why they didn't put a hotshoe on the s95. Can you see the diminutive s95 with an 580exII attached? :D

At least with Olympus lenses, you can stick on the itty-bitty FL-14 flash.

Hahaha.

I really like the 270ex, especially since you can bounce the light off the ceiling.

Not sure if you can do that with the FL-14... :(

A hotshoe on an S95 for using a radio trigger and remote flashes sounds just dandy to me.

I know its supposed to compete with the S95 but since it's in the same price bracket as the G12, I wonder if it's fair to compare the xz1 with the G12. I'm excited to read the reviews.

I was really considering a G12, but this looks damn good.

If this thing is as good as it seems, I'll be dumping my s95 in a heartbeat.

would people expect this Oly to have better IQ than the fuji x100?

Hah. No. p+s sensor vs. APS-C sensor, no comparison. The Oly's lens is probably at about f2 at 35mm equiv. as well, so there's no lens speed advantage for the Oly.

On the other hand, the Oly is a lot smaller, less than half the price, and has a zoom lens. Different cameras for different desires.

I just pre ordered one on B&H!

Look like your AF issue is a non issue! Also the write times of raw files is faster vs the lx5(being 3 seconds to write a raw file)

Now would be a good time. Stock is low and new ones are selling for MSRP or above.

P.S. Depreview just posted a full review in case you haven't noticed already: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/OlympusXZ1/ (external link)

There was a firmware update that speed up the ep-1, ep-2 and epl-1, and now there are much faster AF lenses for oly m4/3 with the mcs motors. And they are pretty darn fast to AF. The oly with the panny lenses are pretty quick as well. The 20 1.7 on the pens AF just as fast as the panny m4/3. So I not holding my breath the the xz1 will AF as fast as the pen's with a mcs lens.

Keep in mind that the E-P1 was pretty darn slow compared to the newer generations. The question is whether they mean as fast as an E-P1 or an E-PL1 (a good bit faster), and if E-PL1, whether it's wearing an Oly lens or a Panasonic lens (again, faster).

Probably faster than most small-sensor compacts, at the least.

The hotshoe is more useful for the VF2 or the or the mic. But they have smaller flash, like the metz 24 AF-1 for canon with ettl. So you can mount that on the g12. The olympus version would be a good flash for the xz1

You can tilt the FL-1. But I would go with the metz 24 for the oly instead. The flash is higher up, and with a longer zoom lens, you do not need to worry about shadows.

But on the style note the nissin di 466 in white looks great on the pen's

the new metz 44 AF-1 for off camera flash. It is a smaller unit. Make for a smaller package with a compact system then the full size dslr flash. And it is pretty powerful.

I wonder how practical wireless flash control is when the flash is twice the size of the camera. Just saying.

I recommend the 36R. ;-)a
