Canon 28-105II

To me, that's not wide enough for landscapes with a crop camera. With the 50D, that's what a 45mm equivalent at best? As a result, the first two are quite flat/lack depth. The third doesn't have a great deal of depth but is better when you pull out a bit of shadow detail and add a bit of saturation.

I think a UWA would really open up a whole new world for you.

Hi. I have a 50d and while I like it it does give more noise than my 20d. Keep the iso as low as possible and use a tripod is the best I can suggest.

Yeah it's really frustrating me! With my 30D I could get noise free images up to 3200 if I exposed right, now I'm struggling with an ISO of 100. I just don't get it. When I do waterfall shots I use a tripod and an ISO of 100 and a shutter release. Aside from mirror lock-up and spending a months salary on a new tripod I don't think there is anything else physically that I can do aside from figuring out if I'm exposing totally wrong.

When shooting I use AV mode and set it to the f/stop I want. Normally around f/13 for these shots. When normally I use f/8 with this lens which I think is it's sweet spot. This is why I'm wondering if this is the right lens for the job.

I'm tempted to think it's the cameras ability to handle noise since I used the same the lens at the same settings with the 30D and the shots were much better and seemed to pop more. My husband wants me to buy a different lens to test the camera, I do have a couple primes in it's range, maybe I'll try those first. But a prime will always beat a zoom.

I don't have any noise control settings on the camera, they're all turned off, should I turn them on? Or will they make things worse?

Like I mentioned above, its the camera and its not really an issue. You're only noticing it because of the increased MP of your 50D images. Noise control will help with noise, but it will reduce detail.

Im telling you, go print an image and see for yourself - the issue presents itself on screen much more than it will in print.

I have prints coming, but with this snow I assume they'll be delayed. I printed the one waterfall shot at 11x14 to see how well it does since that is the size I print for framing normally.
